2024 Salvadoran General Election
General elections will be held in El Salvador in February and March 2024. In the first round on 4 February 2024, Salvadorans will elect the president, vice president, and all 84 deputies of the Legislative Assembly. In the second round on 3 March 2024, they will elect all 20 deputies to the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) and all 262 mayors of the country's municipalities. It will be the first time that presidential and legislative elections occur concurrently since the 1994 general election. Prior to the election, controversy arose from incumbent President Nayib Bukele's announcement on 15 September 2022 that he was running for reelection. The country's constitution prohibits immediate reelection, however, in September 2021, the Supreme Court of Justice ruled that the president can run for immediate reelection.
