2024 PSA Annual Awards
The 2024 San Miguel Corporation (SMC)- Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Annual Awards Night was an annual awarding ceremony honoring the individuals (athletes, officials) teams and organizations that had made significant contributions to the continuous growth of Philippine sports in 2023. Details The awarding ceremony was held on January 29, 2024, at the Diamond Ballroom of the Diamond Hotel in Manila. A total of 140 personalities and groups spearheaded by EJ Obiena as the Athlete of the Year were given out the most awards in this year's edition of the country's top sports award-giving body, which coincides the 75th anniversary of the Philippine Sportswriters Association. Philippines Women's National Football Team
The Philippines women's national football team represents the Philippines in international women's football. It is managed by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), the governing body of football in the country. The women's national football team of the Philippines was formalized in the 1980s. The Philippines has participated regularly in the AFC Women's Asian Cup, first participating in 1981 when the tournament was still known as the AFC Women's Championship. The Philippines hosted the tournament in 1999 in Iloilo and Bacolod. Samboy Lim
Avelino Borromeo Lim Jr. (born April 1, 1962), better known as Samboy "The Skywalker" Lim, is a retired Filipino professional basketball player of the Philippine Basketball Association and many time national player in the 1980s and 90s. As a high-flying wing, he distinguished himself with his flamboyant and often dangerous forays to the basket, punctuated by acrobatic shots, hang-time moves or slam dunks. A five-time All-Star and two-time PBA Mythical Team selection, he did not however win a Most Valuable Player Award because he did not get to complete a full season due to the many injuries he sustained on the court. Allan Vito Flores Caidic (born June 15, 1963) is a Filipino former professional basketball player in the Philippine Basketball Association. He is considered by many to be the greatest shooter the country has ever produced, thus, earning the moniker, ''"The Triggerman"''. He played college hoops at the University of the East before joining the PBA in 1987, where he broke several Philippine and PBA all-time records—including the most points scored in a single game (79 points), the most three-point field goals made in a single game (17 triples; breaking his previous record of 15 triples), the most consecutive freethrows made (76), and the most three-point field goals in a career (1,242 triples; later surpassed by Jimmy Alapag). Marestella Torres
Marestella Torres-Sunang (born February 20, 1981) is a Filipino long jumper. Career Torres-Sunang started long jumping in 1994 in Negros Oriental. Her talent was recognized by her teachers but she often train with a limited budget doing jumps on rice husks rather than a proper sand pit. Torres-Sunang finished fourth at the 2002 Asian Championships and won the silver medal at the 2005 Asian Championships. She also competed at the 2005 World Championships without reaching the final. She also participated in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. In 2009, she surprisingly won the 2009 Asian Championships with a leap of 6.51 m. Her personal best jump of 6.71 m, achieved at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in Palembang, is currently the Southeast Asian Games Record. 2023 World Athletics Championships
The 2023 World Athletics Championships ( hu, 2023-as atlétikai világbajnokság), the nineteenth edition of the World Athletics Championships, are scheduled to be held from 19 August to 27 August 2023 in Budapest, Hungary. The 2023 Asian Athletics Championships is the 25 th edition of the Asian Athletics Championships. It was held from 12 to 16 July 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand. It is the first time that Thailand hosted this event since 1973.
