2023–24 FIBA Europe Cup
The 2023–24 FIBA Europe Cup is the 9th season of the FIBA Europe Cup, a European basketball competition for clubs launched by FIBA Europe. For this season, the number of teams in regular season was increased from 32 to 40 teams. Team allocation A total of 53 teams from 27 of the 50 FIBA Europe member associations were expected to participate in the 2023–24 FIBA Europe Cup season, but finally 51 teams from 27 of the 50 FIBA Europe member associations participated in the competition. On July 20, 2023, FIBA Europe confirmed 35 teams to take part in the competition. On August 2, 2023, FIBA Europe confirmed the 21 teams of the Basketball Champions League qualifying rounds had opted in to participate in the FIBA Europe Cup in case they do not reach the Basketball Champions League regular season, out of which a maximum of 20 could join the regular season. FIBA Europe Cup
The FIBA Europe Cup (FEC) is an annual professional club basketball competition organised by FIBA for eligible European clubs. It is FIBA's European-wide second level. Clubs mainly qualify for the competition based on their performance in national leagues and cup competitions, although this is not the sole deciding factor. The league was founded in 2015 as a replacement of the FIBA EuroChallenge. History On June 30, 2015, FIBA announced it would start a new league to compete with Euroleague Basketball's EuroCup. The new competition, which replaced EuroChallenge, was supposed to be open for up to 100 teams to enter. The first FIBA Europe Cup game was played on October 21, 2015, when Donar Groningen beat Egis Körmend 78–71. Sporting Clube de Portugal, commonly known as Sporting CP or Sporting Portugal, is a professional basketball team based in Lisbon, Portugal, which represents the sport's section within parent club Sporting CP. The 2022–23 BNXT League is the second season of the BNXT League, the highest professional basketball league in Belgium and the Netherlands. ZZ Leiden is the defending champion. ZZ Leiden Basketball, also known as Zorg en Zekerheid Leiden, is a basketball club based in Leiden, Netherlands. The club plays in the BNXT League, the domestic first tier league.
