2023 World Indoor Bowls Championship
''This page is about the World Bowls Tour Championships.'' The 2023 Imagine Cruising World Indoor Bowls Championship took place at Potters Resort, Potters Leisure Resort, Hopton-on-Sea, Great Yarmouth, England, from 6 to 22 January 2023. There were two preliminary round ties in the open singles, with Jason Banks (bowls), Jason Banks beating Darren Weir and Jon Wilson defeating Scott Edwards (bowls), Scott Edwards. Banks went on to reach the final where he met Jamie Walker (bowls), Jamie Walker. This was first time that the open/men's singles final featured two unseeded players since seeds were introduced in 1988. Previously eight unseeded players had reached finals (5 went on to win) but all eight had played seeded players in the final. In the final Walker gained a five shot lead after just two ends but Banks continually played close to the jack and drew level before Walker won the last end with the last bowl. Hopton-on-Sea
Hopton-on-Sea is a village, civil parish and seaside resort on the coast of East Anglia in the county of Norfolk. The village is south of Great Yarmouth, north-west of Lowestoft and near the UK's most easterly point, Lowestoft Ness. The village has many amenities for tourists with amusement arcades and food outlets. It is also home to Potters Resort, the first permanent, mixed-use holiday camp in the UK, founded in 1920. Nick Brett
Nick Brett (born 14 May 1974) is an English lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Brett bowls for the Huntingdon indoor bowls club and Brampton outdoor bowls club. He was ranked the indoor world number 1 in 2015 and 2016. and also won an outdoors National Title in 1999 and subsequent singles at the British Isles Bowls Championships in 2000. Brett's greatest achievement before 2016 was winning the 2014 World Indoor Bowls Championship Pairs title partnering Greg Harlow. It was during the 2016 World Indoor Bowls Championship that Brett became the World Singles Champion for the first time beating Robert Paxton in a competitive final. Mark Dawes
Mark Dawes (born 1983) is an English international lawn and indoor bowler and a four times world indoor champion. Bowls career He won the Men's National Junior title in 2005 at the National Championships. By 2014 he had reached a career high world indoor ranking of 8. In 2018 he won the World Indoor Open Pairs title with Jamie Chestney. and then followed this by taking the World Open Singles Championship, defeating Robert Paxton in a hard fought final. Dawes had been the player of the tournament and Paxton did well to take the final to a tie break. He was subsequently named as the singles first seed at the 2019 World Indoor Bowls Championship. In 2020 his indoor club Blackpool Newton Hall BC permanently closed and Dawes was forced to find a new club. Mervyn John King (born 4 January 1966, in King's Lynn) is an international lawn and indoor bowler from Fakenham. Leslie John Gillett (born 17 November 1970) is an English international indoor and lawn bowls player. He is nicknamed Razor. Bowls career Indoor career Gillett won the 2001 World Indoor Bowls Championship pairs title in Great Yarmouth with bowls partner Mark McMahon. Sixteen years later he won his second title when he won the Open pairs with Jason Greenslade at the 2017 World Indoor Bowls Championship in Great Yarmouth. At the 2022 World Indoor Bowls Championship, Gillett (as the sixth seed) finally won the Open singles title after defeating five-time champion Paul Foster in a tie-break set in the final. Jamie Walker (born 20 December 1991) is an English international bowls player. Bowls career Outdoors In 2013, he won two gold medals at the European Bowls Championships in Spain. He was named as the 2015 Thomas Taylor 'Bowler of the Year' after securing a National title in 2015 and winning the singles gold medal and the triples bronze medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships.
