2023 Serbian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Serbia on 17 December 2023 to elect members of the National Assembly (Serbia), National Assembly. While they were initially scheduled to be held by 30 April 2026, Aleksandar Vučić, the president of Serbia, called a snap election in November 2023. In addition to the parliamentary elections, the 2023 Vojvodina provincial election, Vojvodina provincial and 2023 Serbian local elections, local elections were held in 65 cities and municipalities, including the capital, 2023 Belgrade City Assembly election, Belgrade. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) came to power after the 2012 Serbian parliamentary election, 2012 election when it formed a coalition government with the Socialist Party of Serbia. 2022 Serbian General Election
General elections were held in Serbia on 3 April 2022 to elect both the president and members of the National Assembly. Initially, parliamentary elections were scheduled to be held in 2024; however, in October 2020 president Aleksandar Vučić stated that snap parliamentary elections would be held in or before April 2022. In addition to the general elections, local elections were held simultaneously in 12 municipalities and 2 cities, including Belgrade. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) came to power in 2012 after forming a government with the Socialist Party of Serbia. Usame Zukorlić
Usame Zukorlić ( sr-cyrl, Усаме Зукорлић; born 1992) is a Serbian politician and economist serving as a member of the National Assembly since 1 August 2022. An ethnic Bosniak, he has been the president of the Justice and Reconciliation Party since 2021. Early life Zukorlić was born in Constantine, Algeria in 1992. His father was a Bosniak mufti and politician Muamer Zukorlić, while his mother is an Arab from Algeria.He attended primary and secondary school in Novi Pazar, and later studied at the International University, where he obtained his master's degree in economics, and Faculty of Islamic Studies. 2023 Vojvodina Provincial Election
Provincial elections were held in Vojvodina on 17 December 2023 to elect members of the Assembly of Vojvodina. Initially scheduled to be held by 30 June 2024, the possibility of calling a snap election was discussed in 2023. The Assembly dissolved itself on 16 November 2023, setting the election date for 17 December. It was concurrently held with the 2023 Serbian parliamentary election, parliamentary and 2023 Serbian local elections, local elections in 65 cities and municipalities in Serbia. Snap Election
A snap election is an election that is called earlier than the one that has been scheduled. Generally, a snap election in a parliamentary system (the dissolution of parliament) is called to capitalize on an unusual electoral opportunity or to decide a pressing issue, under circumstances when an election is not required by law or convention. A snap election differs from a recall election in that it is initiated by politicians (usually the head of government or ruling party) rather than voters, and from a by-election in that a completely new parliament is chosen as opposed to merely filling vacancies in an already established assembly. Aleksandar Vučić ( sr-Cyrl, Александар Вучић, ; born 5 March 1970) is a Serbian politician serving as the president of Serbia since 2017, and as the president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) since 2012. Ana Brnabić ( sr-cyr, Ана Брнабић, ; born 28 September 1975) is a Serbian politician serving as the prime minister of Serbia since 2017. She is the first woman and first openly gay person to hold the office. The municipalities and cities ( sr, општине и градови, opštine i gradovi) are the second level administrative subdivisions of Serbia. Slobodan Nikolić (, , born 27 March 1957) is a Serbian politician who has been a member of the National Assembly since 6 February 2024. The New Communist Party of Yugoslavia ( sr-cyrl, Нова комунистичка партија Југославије, Nova Komunistička Partija Jugoslavije, NKPJ) is an anti-revisionist Marxist–Leninist communist party in Serbia. Its goal is the reunification of Yugoslavia as a communist state according to Marxism–Leninism. The party boycotted the 2007 parliamentary election, because of its position that the electoral law violated fundamental democratic principles and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
