2023 Missouri Valley Football Conference Season
The 2023 Missouri Valley Football Conference football season was the 38th season of college football play for the Missouri Valley Football Conference and part of the 2023 NCAA Division I FCS football season. This was the MVFC's first season with 12 teams, as the conference added Murray State Racers football, Murray State over the offseason. It was also the last season with 12 teams for now, as it was announced in May 2023 that Western Illinois Leathernecks football, Western Illinois would be leaving the MVFC after the 2023 season for the Ohio Valley Conference. South Dakota State made it to the 2024 NCAA Division I Football Championship Game, National Championship and won their 2nd FCS title in program history and became the third MVFC team to win back to back titles. The Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC), formerly the Gateway Football Conference, is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the Midwestern United States. The 2023 Villanova Wildcats football team represented Villanova University as a member of the Coastal Athletic Association Football Conference (CAA) during the 2023 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Associated Press poll (AP poll) provides weekly rankings of the top 25 NCAA teams in one of three Division I college sports: football, men's basketball and women's basketball. The rankings are compiled by polling 62 sportswriters and broadcasters from across the nation. Each voter provides their own ranking of the top 25 teams, and the individual rankings are then combined to produce the national ranking by giving a team 25 points for a first place vote, 24 for a second place vote, and so on down to 1 point for a twenty-fifth place vote. John Stiegelmeier
John Stiegelmeier (born February 7, 1957) is an American football coach. He is currently the head football coach at South Dakota State University, a position he has held since 1997. Stiegelmeier was hired as the 20th head coach of the South Dakota State Jackrabbits football program in 1997. In 1999, Stiegelmeier was named the North Central Conference Coach of the Year after finishing the season with an 8–3 overall record. Stiegelmeier was also honored as the Great West Football Conference Coach of the Year in 2007 after compiling a 7–4 overall record and winning the GWFC title. He was also named by the American Football Coaches Association as the 2007 NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision Region 5 Coach of the Year along with being named one of the five finalists for the 2007 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award. Robert Patrick Petrino (born March 10, 1961) is an American football coach. He currently serves as the Offensive Coordinator for the Texas A&M Aggies. He is the former head coach for the Missouri State Bears. Previously, he served as the head coach of the Louisville Cardinals football team from 2014 until being fired during the 2018 season. He previously held the post from 2003 to 2006. From 2008 to 2011, Petrino was the head football coach at the University of Arkansas. Ryan Beard (born 1988/1989) is an American football coach and former player who is currently the head coach for the Missouri State Bears of the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC). He played college football at Western Kentucky and later coached them, Louisville, Northern Michigan, and Central Michigan before receiving a job at Missouri State in 2020. Early life and education A native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Beard attended Bowling Green High School where he played football for four seasons and helped them reach the Class 3A championship twice. The 2022 Weber State Wildcats football team represented Weber State University as a member of the Big Sky Conference during the 2022 NCAA Division I FCS football season. 2022 North Dakota State Bison Football Team
The 2022 North Dakota State Bison football team represented North Dakota State University as a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) during the 2022 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Bison were led by fourth-year head coach Matt Entz. They played their home games at the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota.
