2023 Emperor's Cup
The 2023 Emperor's Cup (Emperor's Cup JFA 103rd Japan Football Championship (Japanese: 天皇杯 JFA 第103回全日本サッカー選手権大会)) is the 103rd edition of the annually contested cup, starting on 20 May. The format for 2023 does not present any changes from the previous edition. It features 88 teams representing the prefectural football associations, J1 League, J2 League and Japan Football League. JFL's Honda FC was once again chosen to be the annually specially-designated amateur club. Ventforet Kofu are the defending champions, after a cinderella story for the J2 club saw them qualify for the final, which they won on penalties against Sanfrecce Hiroshima, after a 1–1 draw in regulation time, but were eliminated by Vissel Kobe in the round of 16. Vissel Kobe
is a Japanese professional football club based in Kobe, Hyōgo Prefecture. The club plays in the J1 League, which is the top tier of football in the country. is a football (soccer) club based in Obihiro, which is located in Hokkaido in Japan. They play in the Hokkaido Soccer League, which is part of Japanese Regional Leagues. , formerly known as BTOP Thank Kuriyama, are a Japanese football club based in Kuriyama, Sorachi, Hokkaido. They play in the Hokkaido Soccer League. Despite playing in a league that holds an amateur status, the club's players and employees are currently signed on professional contracts. History The club was founded in 1998 as Sapporo Thank FC. A phoenix club, the club was formed from the dissolution of another Hokkaido club, Anfini Sapporo.
