The 2023 Detroit Tigers season is the team's 123rd season and its 24th at Comerica Park. This is the Tigers' third season under manager A. J. Hinch. The regular season began on March 30 and will end on October 1. The Tigers are attempting to make the playoffs for the first time since 2014. This is the final season for long-time Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera, who has announced he will retire from playing but plans to stay in the sport in another manner. American League Central
The American League Central is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. This division was formed in the realignment of 1994 by moving three teams from the American League West and two teams from the American League East. Its teams are all located in the Midwestern United States. Along with the National League East, the AL Central is one of two divisions in the Major Leagues in which all of its members have won a World Series title. 2014 Detroit Tigers Season
The 2014 Detroit Tigers season was the team's 114th season. This was the team's first year under a mostly new coaching staff led by rookie Manager Brad Ausmus. On September 28, the last day of the regular season, the Tigers clinched the American League Central title with a 3–0 win over the Minnesota Twins. The Tigers finished one game ahead of the Kansas City Royals, with a 90–72 record. It was their fourth consecutive American League Central title. They became the first AL Central team to win four consecutive titles since the Cleveland Indians won five straight from 1995 to 1999, and the first Tigers team to ever make four consecutive postseason appearances. Despite all of this, the Tigers' season ended on October 5 when they were swept by the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Division Series. Garrett Burhenn Garrett Burhenn (born September 12, 1999) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Detroit Tigers organization. Burhenn grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana and attended Lawrence North High School. He was named first team All-State as a senior. Burhenn played college baseball for the Ohio State Buckeyes for three seasons. He was named to the Big Ten Conference All-Freshman team in his first season after posting a 6-4 record with a 3.96 ERA and 69 strikeouts. Burhenn went 2-2 with an 8.02 ERA and 29 strikeouts in innings pitched over four starts during his sophomore season before it was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic. Joe Alexander Jiménez (born January 17, 1995) is a Puerto Rican professional baseball pitcher for the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers in 2017 and was an All-Star in 2018. Robin Lund is a Canadian professional baseball coach. He is the assistant pitching coach for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Career Lund is from Peace River, Alberta. He played baseball in Canada through the eighth grade, when organized baseball programs ceased. James Frank Rowson (born September 12, 1976) is an American professional baseball coach. He is currently the assistant hitting coach for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was previously a coach in MLB for the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins and Miami Marlins. Playing career The Seattle Mariners drafted Rowson in the ninth round of the 1994 MLB Draft. Michael Steven Hessman (born March 5, 1978) is an American former professional baseball first baseman and third baseman. He is currently a hitting coach for the Toledo Mud Hens. He played in the MLB for the Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers, and New York Mets, and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Orix Buffaloes. Hessman holds the all-time record for International League home runs, when he hit his 259th on June 30, 2014, breaking Ollie Carnegie's record set in 1945.
