The 2023 Southeastern Conference football season is the 91st season of Southeastern Conference (SEC) football, taking place during the 2023 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The season began on August 26, 2023, and will end with the 2023 SEC Championship Game on December 2, 2023. The SEC is a Power Five conference in the current College Football Playoff system. The season schedule was released on September 20, 2022. This is also expected to be the final year for the conference's divisional structure as Texas and Oklahoma will join the SEC in 2024. A punter (P) in gridiron football is a special teams player who receives the snapped ball directly from the line of scrimmage and then punts (kicks) the football to the opposing team so as to limit any field position advantage. This generally happens on a fourth down in American football and a third down in Canadian football. Punters may also occasionally take part in fake punts in those same situations, when they throw or run the football instead of punting.
