2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup
The 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, the 19th edition of FIBA's premier international tournament for women's national basketball teams, was held in Sydney, Australia between 22 September and 1 October 2022. The United States were the three-time defending champion, and retained the title after a finals win over China in front of 15,895 attendants. Host Australia captured the bronze medal with a win against Canada. The competition recorded the highest number of attendance in history, with 145,519 people attending all games. Hosts selection Australia and Russia were the only two federations bidding for the tournament. The decision was made on 26 March 2020 during a video conference. 2021–22 Basketball Champions League
The 2021–22 Basketball Champions League was the 6th season of the Basketball Champions League (BCL), the premier European professional basketball competition for clubs launched by FIBA. The season began on 5 October 2021 and ended on 15 May 2022, featuring 16 domestic champion teams. The defending champions, San Pablo Burgos, were eliminated in the play-ins. The winners of the Champions League will qualify for the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The Bilbao Arena in Bilbao hosted the Final Four, which marked the first time the arena of a non-participating team is chosen as a host. Lenovo Tenerife won its second-ever Champions League title (its last being in 2017) after defeating Baxi Manresa in the final. FIBA Europe is the administrative body for basketball in Europe, within the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), which includes all 50 national European basketball federations. In reaction to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, FIBA Europe mandated that no official basketball competitions are to be held in either Russia or Belarus, while the teams of the Russian Basketball Federation and of the Belarusian Basketball Federation are being withdrawn from national team competitions and from the club competition season 2022-23. Atlético Petróleos de Luanda, commonly known as Petro de Luanda, is an Angolan basketball club based in Luanda. It competes at the local level, at the Luanda Provincial Basketball Championship and at the Angola National Basketball Championship. Additionally, the club plays at the continental level, at the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Established in 1976, the team is part of a multi-sports club which includes a football and handball team as well. Petro has been one of the most successful teams in Angola, having won the second most Angolan championships with 15, trailing only Primeiro de Agosto. Union Sportive Monastirienne ( ar, الاتحاد الرياضي المنستيري‎), commonly known as US Monastir, is a Tunisian professional basketball club based in Monastir. Established in 1959, the team plays in the Pro A the first division league in Tunisia and has won seven national championships. Monastir also plays in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) since the inaugural season in 2021. Home games are played in the Mohamed-Mzali Sports Hall. 2022 BAL Season
The 2022 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 2, was the second season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 2 March 2022 and ended with the Finals on 28 May 2022. The group phase was played in the Dakar Arena in Dakar and the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in Cairo. The playoffs and finals were played in the BK Arena in Kigali for a second year in a row. Tunisian club US Monastir won the finals to win its first-ever BAL title, after defeating Angolan club Petro de Luanda in the 2022 BAL Finals. As winners, Monastir qualified for the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Format On 9 December 2021, the BAL announced a new format for the season, with an expansion of the number of total games to 38. The 2021-22 FIBA Europe Cup is the seventh season of the FIBA Europe Cup, a European professional basketball competition for clubs, that was launched by FIBA. Team allocation 14 teams eliminated in the Basketball Champions League qualification rounds could join directly the regular season, depending on their decision as declared in the FIBA Europe Cup option form. São Paulo FC is the basketball section of the São Paulo FC club, based in São Paulo, Brazil. The men's first team plays professionally in the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). Home games are played at the Multisport Gym Doctor Antônio Leme Nunes Galvão, which has a capacity for 1,900 people. The club was inactive for a long time but it resumed operations in November 2018, starting competing in the second-tier LOB for the 2018–19 season.
