2022 World Para Swimming Championships
The 2022 World Para Swimming Championships was the 11th edition of the World Para Swimming Championships, an international swimming competition for athletes with a disability. It was held in Madeira from 12 to 18 June. The competition was originally scheduled to be held in 2021, however, it was moved to the summer of 2022 due to the postponement of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo from 2020 to 2021. The event featured 488 athletes from 59 countries. Participating nations Russia and Belarus were banned from attending all international competitions due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Leanne Smith (born May 8, 1988) is an American Paralympic swimmer who represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Career Smith represented the United States in the women's 100 metre freestyle S3 event and won a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. On April 14, 2022, Smith was named to the roster to represent the United States at the 2022 World Para Swimming Championships. Tanja Scholz
Tanja Scholz (born 29 June 1984) is a German Paralympic swimmer, who won three gold medals at the 2022 World Para Swimming Championships. Personal life Scholz is from Elmshorn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. She has three children. Scholz was diagnosed with paraplegia after a horse riding accident in June 2020, and has been wheelchair bound since. At the time, she was told that she would not be able to swim due to the extent of her injuries. Career Scholz started competing in competitive para swimming in January 2021; prior to her accident, she had been a competitive able bodied swimmer. She trains at , and is coached by Kirsten Bruhn. Larissa Rodrigues (born 16 November 2004) is a Brazilian Paralympic swimmer. Early life Rodrigues was born with a congenital malformation of her arms and legs, leaving them small. Nikita Ens (born October 19, 1988) is a Canadian Paralympic swimmer who competes in international swimming competitions. She is a World silver medalist and has competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Early life and education Nikita Ens was born in 1988 to parents Rod and Monica Ens. She attended Carpenter High School and was a high school provincial champion in shot put in 2006. In 2010, she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor of science in biology.
