2022 Singapore Premier League
The 2022 Singapore Premier League (also known as the AIA Singapore Premier League due to sponsorship reasons) is the 5th season of the Singapore Premier League, the top-flight Singaporean professional league for association football clubs, since its rebranding in 2018. The champions of the 2022 Singapore Premier League may qualify for the AFC Champions League. The season will begin on March and is scheduled to end in October. Lion City Sailors are the defending champions, having won their third Singapore Premier League title during the previous season. Format The following key changes were made to the rules since the 2022 season: # Each team is able to register up to 25 players in their squad, a reduction of 3 players as compared from 2020. # From 2021, Albirex is allowed to sign a maximum of 2 overage Singaporean players. Singapore Premier League
The Singapore Premier League, commonly abbreviated as SPL, officially known as the AIA Singapore Premier League for sponsorship reasons, is a men's professional football league sanctioned by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), which represents the sport's highest level in the Singapore football league system. The competition was founded as the S. League on 14 April 1996 after the FAS announced its intention to promote and expand the growing local football community by having a top level domestic league. As of 2022, the league comprises eight clubs, consisting of three rounds in which each team plays every other team once. Seasons run from late March to October, with teams playing 21 matches each, totalling 147 matches in the season. Successful SPL clubs gain qualification into Asian continental club competitions, including the AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup. SPL currently does not practice promotion and relegation. Jurong East Stadium
Jurong East Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Jurong East, Singapore. It is opened from 7am to 7.30pm. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Albirex Niigata Singapore FC and Tanjong Pagar United. The stadium holds 2,700 people and opened in 1998. It is one of only three stadiums in Singapore that does not have a running track, and was built to serve only as a football stadium. Kazuaki Yoshinaga (吉永一明, ''Yoshinaga Kazuaki'', born March 17, 1968, in Fukuoka, Japan) is a Japanese coach. He is the current head coach at Albirex Niigata.
