The 2022 Ottawa municipal election was held on Monday, October 24, 2022, to elect a Mayor of Ottawa, mayor, Ottawa City Council, city councillors, and trustees to the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, English and Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario, French public school boards and the Ottawa-Carleton Catholic School Board, English and Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est, French Catholic school boards in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Incumbent Mayor Jim Watson (Canadian politician), Jim Watson did not run for re-election, citing his age as the reason behind his decision. This election was the first since the 1997 Ottawa municipal election, 1997 municipal election that an incumbent mayor or its equivalent did not run for re-election. Percentage Point
A percentage point or percent point is the unit (measurement), unit for the Difference (mathematics), arithmetic difference between two percentages. For example, moving up from 40 percent to 44 percent is an increase of 4 percentage points, but a 10-percent increase in the quantity being measured. Ottawa Light Rail
The Confederation Line (french: Ligne de la Confédération), also called O-Train Line 1 (french: Ligne 1 de l'O-Train), is a light rail line operated by OC Transpo in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, as part of the city's O-Train light rail system. It opened on September 14, 2019, and is O-Train's second line. It operates on an east–west route, with a segment under Queen Street in the downtown core, complementing the north–south Trillium Line that operates to the west of the downtown core. Using light rail rolling stock and technology (e.g. pantograph electrical pickup from overhead catenary rather than a third rail), the Confederation Line is completely grade separated. Vanier, Ontario
Vanier, formerly Eastview, is a neighbourhood in the Rideau-Vanier Ward of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada's east end. Historically francophone and working class, the neighbourhood was a separate city until being amalgamated into Ottawa in 2001. It no longer has a majority francophone population. By 2012 its francophone population had shrunk to less than 40% from 63% in the early 1980s. The neighbourhood is located on the east bank of the Rideau River, across from the neighbourhoods of Lowertown and Sandy Hill, and just south of Rockcliffe Park, New Edinburgh, Lindenlea, and Manor Park. The Ottawa Police Service (OPS; French: ''Service de police d'Ottawa'') is a municipal police force in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The OPS serves an area of 2,790 square kilometres and 1,017,449 (2021 census) people alongside several other police forces which have specialized jurisdiction. Diane Deans
Diane Elizabeth Deans is a member of Ottawa City Council, Canada, representing Gloucester-Southgate Ward in the city's southeast, representing more than 49,500 residents. Career A graduate of the University of Guelph, she was active in the Canadian Federation of Students before becoming a staffer on Parliament Hill. Carol Anne Meehan
Carol Anne Meehan (born December 17, 1956) is an Ottawa City Councillor and former news anchor at CJOH. Biography She is a graduate of Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropoitan University) and began her career at CHRO in Pembroke, Ontario, the city where she grew up. She also worked in Sudbury, Edmonton and Calgary. In 1989, she began co-anchoring the CJOH Ottawa evening news, then known as Newsline, alongside Max Keeping. She was laid off on November 17, 2015, by station owner Bell Media. Following her departure from CJOH she joined 1310 News as a talk-show host. She left 1310 News in November 2017. In January 2012, her missing husband was found dead in Brudenell, Ontario. She lives on the Rideau River near Manotick with her two children. Shawn Michael Menard (born April 14, 1982) is a Canadian politician. He was elected to Ottawa City Council representing Capital Ward in the 2018 Ottawa municipal election. Menard grew up in Ottawa, the son of a single mother. He graduated from Sir Robert Borden High School, and studied criminology and public administration at Carleton University. At Carleton, Menard was the president of the Rideau River Residence Association and later the president of the Carleton University Students' Association. He graduated from Carleton with a master's degree in Public Policy and Administration. Jeff Leiper
Jeffrey Leiper (born 1970) is the current Ottawa City Council, Ottawa city councillor for Kitchissippi Ward. He was first elected in the 2014 Ottawa municipal election, defeating the incumbent Katherine Hobbs. Leiper was born and raised in Ottawa. He studied History and English at the University of Ottawa, and Print Journalism at Algonquin College. As a youth, Leiper was a member of the youth wing of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, though he is now a committed progressive. 2022 Ontario Municipal Elections
The 2022 municipal elections in Ontario were held on October 24, 2022. Voters in the province of Ontario elected mayors, councillors, school board trustees and all other elected officials in all of the province's municipalities. In total, 32 of Ontario's 444 municipalities will not hold elections, as their entire councils were elected by acclamation. In total, 139 municipalities had their mayors or reeves acclaimed.
