The 2022 Madrid Open (sponsored by Mutua Madrileña, Mutua) was a professional tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts at the Caja Mágica, Park Manzanares in Madrid, Spain from 28 April to 8 May 2022. It was the 20th edition of the event on the ATP Tour and 13th on the WTA Tour. Clay Court
A clay court is one of the types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis, originally known as "lawn tennis", is played. Clay courts are made of crushed stone, brick, shale, or other unbound mineral aggregate depending on the tournament. The French Open uses clay courts, the only Grand Slam tournament to do so. Clay courts are more common in Continental Europe and Latin America than in North America, Asia-Pacific or Britain. Desirae Krawczyk
Desirae Marie Krawczyk (; born January 11, 1994) is an American professional tennis player who specialises in doubles. Krawczyk has a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 10, achieved in July 2022, and has won seven titles on the WTA Tour, including two at the WTA 500 level. Robert Charbel Farah Maksoud (; born 20 January 1987) is a Colombian professional tennis player, who is a former world No. 1 in doubles. He reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 163 in June 2011, but has achieved most of his success in doubles. Farah is a two-time Grand Slam Champion, having won both the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open in 2019 in men's doubles, alongside compatriot Juan Sebastián Cabal. Jessica Pegula (born February 24, 1994) is an American professional tennis player. She has a career-high WTA rankings in singles and doubles of world No. 3, both achieved on October 24, 2022.
