2022 Mexican League Season
The 2022 Mexican League season was the 97th season in the history of the Mexican League. The league is contested by 18 teams, evenly divided in North and South zones. The season started on 21 April with the series between the defending champions Toros de Tijuana and Diablos Rojos del México and ended on 19 September with the last game of the Serie del Rey, where Leones de Yucatán defeated Sultanes de Monterrey to win the championship. Mexican League
The Mexican League (, ) is a professional baseball league based in Mexico and the oldest running professional league in the country. The league has 18 teams organized in two divisions, North and South. Teams play 114 games each season. Five teams in each division advance to a four-round postseason tournament that culminates in the Serie del Rey, a best-of-seven championship series between the two division champions. The Mexican League has two affiliated minor leagues, the Liga Norte de México and Mexican Academy League. Though founded in 1925, the league joined the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues ( Minor League Baseball) in 1955, when it was designated a Double-A league. El Águila de Veracruz (English: ''The Veracruz Eagle'') is a professional baseball team that plays in the Mexican League. Based in Veracruz, Mexico, they play their home games at the Estadio Universitario Beto Ávila. History Baseball was introduced to Veracruz during the early 20th century by employees of American and British oil companies. Native employees began to take an interest in the games, played by the managers of these companies, who then purchased uniforms for the new players. The uniforms they purchased were red, which had a lasting effect on future baseball teams in Veracruz. Estadio Hermanos Serdán ( en, Serdán Brothers Stadium) is a stadium in Puebla City, Mexico. It is primarily used for baseball, and is the home field of the Pericos de Puebla of the Mexican League. Estadio Universitario Beto Ávila is a stadium in Veracruz, Mexico. It is primarily used for baseball and is home to El Águila de Veracruz of the Mexican League. Estadio Revolución
Estadio de la Revolución is a sports arena located near the downtown area of Torreón in Coahuila, Mexico. It has a seating capacity of 7,689. Though used mainly for baseball games, it sometimes hosts concerts and other non-sport events. It is the home field of the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna baseball team, and as such, it is the oldest professional baseball field in Mexico still in function. Since it was originally constructed as a multi sport stadium and featured a running track the Estadio de la Revolución features the largest foul territory of any ball park within the Mexican League, the area of the former running track. Serie Del Rey
The Serie del Rey () is the annual championship series of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol to determine a champion at the end of each season since 1970. The champions from each division, Norte and Sur (), compete in a best-of-seven series, with the winner being awarded the Copa de Zaachila. Previously, the league champion was the winner of the most games in a round robin tournament. The series is named in reference to baseball being called the king of sports.
