2022 ESA Astronaut Group
The 2022 European Space Agency Astronaut Group is the latest class of the European Astronaut Corps. The selection recruited five "career" astronauts, 11 "reserve" and one "astronaut with a physical disability". It is the fourth European Space Agency (ESA) recruitment campaign and the first since 2008 and over 22 thousand applications were received. The selected corps joined the continuing corps of ESA astronauts, those selected in 2009, to perform long-duration spaceflight missions aboard the International Space Station, and "...will form part of the crew for the next missions to the moon in the late 2020s and through the 2030s" – as part of the Artemis program. The Shenanigans

Sara García Alonso
Sara García Alonso (born 1989) is a Spanish cancer researcher and reserve ESA astronaut. Since 2019, she has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre. In 2022, she was chosen as a reserve astronaut in the European Astronaut Corps. Education and academic career García attended University of León, where she earned a bachelor's degree in biotechnology in 2012 and a master's degree in biomedical and biological research in 2013. As a doctoral candidate at University of Salamanca, García conducted research on cancer medicine as a university research assistant for the Spanish National Research Council. Body Mass Index
Body mass index (BMI) is a value derived from the mass (weight) and height of a person. The BMI is defined as the body mass divided by the square of the body height, and is expressed in units of kg/m2, resulting from mass in kilograms and height in metres. Nicola Winter
Nicola Winter (; born 10 March 1985) is a German reserve astronaut and former fighter pilot. Winter became the second female fighter pilot in the history of the German Air Force in 2007 flying both Tornado and Eurofighter Typhoon in the German Air Force. In 2017, she was selected as an astronaut candidate for the private spaceflight organisation Die Astronautin, which aims to send the first German woman into space, but later withdrew from the programme. Marcus Wandt
Marcus Wandt (born September 22, 1980) is a Swedish test pilot and member of the 2022 European Space Agency Astronaut Group. Pre-ESA Career From 2003 to 2014, Wandt was a fighter pilot in the Swedish Air Force. In 2004, he joined the Swedish Air Force Flying Training School, where he received basic flight training. He received a master's degree in electrical engineering from Chalmers University of Technology in 2007. From 2013 to 2014, he trained at the United States Naval Test Pilot School where he graduated at the top of his class to become an experimental test pilot. In 2014 he joined SAAB Aeronautics as an experimental test pilot, before being promoted to chief test pilot and head of flight operations in 2020. Sławosz Uznański
Sławosz Uznański (Polish: ; born 12 April 1984 in Łódź) is a Polish engineer working at European Space Agency (ESA) as project astronaut since 2023 and formerly at CERN. Early life and education Uznański was born and raised in Łódź, where he attended the 8th Adam Asnyk High School. In 2008, he graduated with honours with master's degree from the Technical University of Łódź and from the University of Nantes; in the same year also received Diplôme d'Ingénieur from the Polytech Nantes. Aleš Svoboda (Astronaut)
Aleš Svoboda (2 April 1941 in Zlín – 9 January 2010 in Opava) was a Czech linguist, university professor, and a prominent representative of the Prague School of linguistics. Biography He initially studied music and clarinet at Brno conservatoire, but later his keen interest in languages brought him to study English, German and Czech at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. In 1970 he became an Assistant Professor of the Department of English and American Studies at the faculty. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor at Charles University in Prague in 1981 and to Full Professor at Masaryk University in Brno in 1992. Amelie Schoenenwald
Amelie Karin Josephine Schoenenwald (born 1989) is a German biologist and reserve astronaut. After studying at the Technical University of Munich from 2009 to 2015, Schoenenwald earned a PhD in integrative structural biology at the Medical University of Vienna in 2020. She was chosen as a reserve astronaut in the European Astronaut Corps in 2022. By the time of her selection, she had worked in industry for a few years.
