2022 Adelaide International 2
The 2022 Adelaide International 2 was a tennis tournament on the 2022 ATP Tour and 2022 WTA Tour. It was a combined ATP Tour 250 and WTA 250 tournament played on outdoor hard courts at the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. This was the fourth edition of the tournament for the women and the third edition for the men. It was organized due to the cancellation of the Hobart International for the women and ATP Auckland Open for the men, because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament took place from 10 to 15 January 2022 and followed the 2022 Adelaide International 1, a combined ATP Tour 250 and WTA 500 tournament, held the week before. The ATP 250 tournaments (previously known as the ''ATP World Tour 250'' tournaments, '' ATP International Series'', and ''ATP World Series'') are the lowest tier of annual men's tennis tournaments on the main ATP Tour, after the four Grand Slam tournaments, ATP Finals, ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, and ATP 500 tournaments. As of 2020, the series includes 39 tournaments, with 250 ranking points awarded to each singles champion—which accounts for the name of the series. Memorial Drive Park
Memorial Drive Park, more generally referred to as "Memorial Drive", is a tennis venue, located adjacent to the Adelaide Oval, in the park lands surrounding the centre of Adelaide, South Australia. Memorial Drive took its name from the winding avenue, known as War Memorial Drive, which separates the venue from the River Torrens. History The Memorial Drive Tennis club was established in 1914, under the name South Australian Lawn Tennis Club. About of land were leased to the club and the courts were opened in October 1921 by the Governor of South Australia, Sir Archibald Weigall. Gerald Patterson won the first South Australian Men's Singles Championship staged at the venue in 1922, the same year in which he also won Wimbledon for the second time. The 2022 Adelaide International 1 was a tennis tournament on the 2022 ATP Tour and 2022 WTA Tour. It was a combined ATP Tour 250 and WTA 500 tournament played on outdoor hard courts at the redeveloped Memorial Drive Tennis Centre in Adelaide, South Australia in Australia. This was the third edition of the tournament for the women and the second edition for the men. The tournament took place at the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre from 3–9 January 2022 and was followed a week later by the 2022 Adelaide International 2, a combined ATP Tour 250 and WTA 250 tournament, at the same venue. Ashleigh Barty and Gaël Monfils were crowned the women's and men's singles champions, respectively. Iga Świątek was the defending champion in women's singles and Andrey Rublev was the defending champion in men's singles from when the men's tournaments were last held in 2020.
