2021–22 Stoke City F.C. Season
The 2021–22 season was Stoke City's 105th season in the Football League, the 45th in the second tier and eighth in the Championship. Stoke had a busy summer transfer window with the permanent departure of 13 players, which enabled O'Neill to make several new additions to his squad. A new look squad began the season well, gaining 35 points from the first 23 matches and they were just outside the play-off places at the turn of the year. However a poor run of results from January saw Stoke drop down the league and finish in a mid-table position for a fourth consecutive season. Pre-season Stoke announced their retained list on 1 June 2021 with Jordan Cousins the only senior player leaving whilst James Chester and John Obi Mikel signed one-year contract extensions. Jordan Cousins
Jordan Paul Cousins (born 6 March 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Cambridge United. Born in England, he represents the Jamaica national team. Cousins began his career with Charlton Athletic, breaking into the first team in 2013–14 after progressing thorough their academy. He became a regular with the Addicks until the side suffered relegation in 2015–16 and he left for Queens Park Rangers. Samuel Michael Vokes (born 21 October 1989) is a professional footballer who plays as a striker for EFL League One club Wycombe Wanderers and the Wales national team. Vokes began his professional career at AFC Bournemouth in League One, making his debut in 2006. Lasse Sørensen (born 21 October 1999) is a Danish professional footballer who plays mainly as a wing back for club Huddersfield Town. He is also able to play as a midfielder. Career Stoke City Sørensen was born in Vejen and began his career with the youth team of Danish Superliga side Esbjerg fB before moving to English side Stoke City in January 2016. Papa Alioune N'Diaye known as Badou Ndiaye (IPA: ; born 27 October 1990) is a Senegalese professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Adana Demirspor. Mikel John Obi (born John Michael Nchekwube Obinna; 22 April 1987) is a Nigerian former professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. Lee Andrew Gregory (born 26 August 1988) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for League One club Sheffield Wednesday. Gregory started playing football at the Sheffield United Academy. He was not offered a professional contract with the Blades and so he went and played non-league football with Staveley Miners Welfare whilst learning to become an electrician.
