2021–22 Pittsburgh Panthers Men's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 Pittsburgh Panthers men's basketball team represented the University of Pittsburgh during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Panthers were led by fourth-year head coach Jeff Capel III, Jeff Capel and played their home games at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Panthers finished the season 11–21 overall and 6–14 in 2021–22 Atlantic Coast Conference men's basketball season, ACC play to finish in a three way tie for eleventh place. As the twelfth seed in the 2022 ACC men's basketball tournament, ACC tournament, they lost to thirteenth seed 2021–22 Boston College Eagles men's basketball team, Boston College in the First Round. They were not invited to the 2022 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, NCAA tournament or the 2022 National Invitation Tournament, NIT. Jeff Capel III
Felton Jeffrey Capel III (born February 12, 1975) is an American college basketball coach and former player. He is currently the head coach of the University of Pittsburgh's Panthers men's basketball team. He played for Duke University and was a head coach at Virginia Commonwealth University and University of Oklahoma. Youth Capel is from a basketball family. His father was the late basketball coach Jeff Capel II, former assistant coach for the Charlotte Bobcats and former head coach at Old Dominion University, and his younger brother Jason played basketball at Duke's biggest rival, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was the head basketball coach at Appalachian State University. As a senior at South View High School in Hope Mills, North Carolina, Jeff led his team to the 1993 state championship defeating Charlotte powerhouse South Mecklenburg 53–52 with a last second lay-up.
