2021–22 FIS Cross-Country World Cup
The 2021–22 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was the 41st official FIS Cross-Country World Cup, World Cup season in cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skiing for men and women. The season began on 26 November 2021 in Rukatunturi, Ruka, Finland and was scheduled to conclude with the World Cup Finals on 18–20 March 2022 in Tyumen, Russia. But after the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian invasion of Ukraine FIS announced that the World Cup Finals would be cancelled or moved. As a result, the final competition was the mixed team events on 13 March 2022 in Falun, Sweden. The season featured a break in February for the Cross-country skiing at the 2022 Winter Olympics, 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. On 1 March 2022, following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, FIS decided to exclude athletes from Russia and Belarus from FIS competitions, with an immediate effect. Rukatunturi
Rukatunturi ( fi, Ruka) is a high fell and a ski resort in Kuusamo, Finland. Apart from downhill skiing, there are over 500 km of cross-country skiing tracks. Also snowmobiles can be rented to enjoy some of the area's 600 km of snowmobile routes (of which 100 km are safari organizers' private routes). Ruka is also the southern end of the Karhunkierros hiking trail. The total of trails in Ruka and Kuusamo area is: 160 km of hiking trails, 605 km of biking routes, 350 km of classified paddling routes (including class 1–4 whitewater paddling) and 100 km of boating routes. In winter 1954, the first slope, now called "Eturinne" ("Front Slope"), was opened. The current number of slopes is 29, operated with 20 ski lifts (one high-speed detachable chair with bubble). Simen Hegstad Krüger (born 13 March 1993) is a Norwegian cross-country skier who competes in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup. He represents the club Lyn. Thomas Helland Larsen
Thomas Helland Larsen (born 20 April 1998) is a Norwegian cross-country skier. At the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics he finished fourth in the 10 kilometre, won the silver medal in the cross-country cross event and the gold medal in the sprint event. Competing at the 2017 and 2018 Junior World Championships, his biggest success was the 2017 event where he won a gold medal in the 4 × 5 kilometre relay and the silver medal in the 10 + 10 kilometre skiathlon. He made his World Cup debut at the March 2020 sprint in Konnerud, also collecting his first World Cup points with a 26th place. He improved to 21st in February 2021 in Ulricehamn. His definitive breakthrough came in December 2021 in Lillehammer, where he finished second in the sprint. Sergey Aleksandrovich Ustiugov (russian: Сергей Александрович Устюгов; born 8 April 1992) is a Russian Cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skier, Olympic champion, world champion and Tour de Ski winner. Cross-country Skiing At The 2022 Winter Olympics
Cross-country skiing at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held at the Kuyangshu Nordic Center and Biathlon Center in Zhangjiakou, China. A total of 296 quota spots (148 per gender) were distributed to the sport, a decline of 14 from the 2018 Winter Olympics. A total of 12 events were contested, six each for men and women. Qualification A maximum of 296 quota spots will be available to athletes to compete at the games. A maximum of 16 athletes can be entered by a National Olympic Committee, with a maximum of 8 men or 8 women. Nations that have an athlete achieve less than 300 FIS points in the 2021 World Championships, or the under 23 World Championships, gain entry for at least one competitor, of that gender, into the 2022 games. Falun
Falun () is a city and the seat of Falun Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 37,291 inhabitants in 2010. It is also the capital of Dalarna County. Falun forms, together with Borlänge, a metropolitan area with just over 100,000 inhabitants. Falun was originally famous for its copper mine, and is today an important service and industrial city even though the mine is closed (since 1992).
