Television In Canada
Television in Canada officially began with the sign-on of the nation's first television stations in Montreal and Toronto in 1952. As with most media in Canada, the television industry, and the television programming available in that country, are strongly influenced by media in the United States, perhaps to an extent not seen in any other major industrialized nation. As a result, the government institutes quotas for "Canadian content". Nonetheless, new content is often aimed at a broader North American audience, although the similarities may be less pronounced in the predominantly French-language province of Quebec. CTV Television Network
The CTV Television Network, commonly known as CTV, is a Canadian English-language terrestrial television network. Launched in 1961 and acquired by BCE Inc. in 2000, CTV is Canada's largest privately owned television network and is now a division of the Bell Media subsidiary of BCE. It is Canada's largest privately or commercially owned network consisting of 22 owned-and-operated stations nationwide and two privately owned affiliates, and has consistently been placed as Canada's top- rated network in total viewers and in key demographics since 2002, after several years trailing the rival Global Television Network in key markets. ''This Is Pop'' is a Canadian documentary television series, which aired on CTV Television Network in 2021. Produced by Banger Films and similar to the format of the company's earlier documentary series ''Metal Evolution'', ''Rock Icons'' and ''Hip-Hop Evolution'', the eight-episode series presents a history of pop music. The series was designed thematically rather than chronologically, so that episodes could be viewed in any order; when the series was added to Netflix for international distribution, it was designed so that whichever episode the service's algorithms deemed most likely to be of interest to each individual viewer was recommended first. CBC Television (also known as CBC TV) is a Canadian English-language broadcast television network owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the national public broadcaster. The network began operations on September 6, 1952. Its French-language counterpart is Ici Radio-Canada Télé. With main studios at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto, CBC Television is available throughout Canada on over-the-air television stations in urban centres, and as a must-carry station on cable and satellite television providers. CKGL
CKGL (570 AM) is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts at 570 AM in Kitchener, Ontario. The station currently broadcasts a news/talk format branded on-air as ''CityNews 570''. The station is owned by Rogers Sports & Media, and is an affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays Radio Network. CKGL is also the radio broadcaster for the Kitchener Rangers. History The station was originally launched in 1949 as FM 96.7 CKCR-FM, simulcasting the programming of CKCR. In 1965, the stations were acquired by Great Lakes Broadcasting, a consortium that included Maclean-Hunter. Both stations changed their callsigns to CHYM (pronounced as "chime") that year. ''Pretty Hard Cases'' is a Canadian police comedy-drama television series that premiered on CBC Television on February 3, 2021. Originally announced with the working title ''Lady Dicks'', the series was created by Tassie Cameron and Sherry White. In March 2021, the series was renewed for a second season, which premiered on January 5, 2022. Amazon Freevee will become official co-producer from the second season.
