2021 PSL Season
The 2021 PSL season is the ninth season of the Philippine Super Liga (PSL). Following the cancellation of the 2020 PSL season, previous season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, three member teams took an indefinite leave of absence (Petron Blaze Spikers, Petron, Generika-Ayala Lifesavers, Generika-Ayala and Marinerang Pilipina). This was followed by the transfer to the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) by the PLDT, PLDT Group teams, PLDT Home Fibr Hitters, PLDT Home Fibr and Cignal HD Spikers (women's team), Cignal HD. The rival PVL also secured a three-year broadcast deal with Cignal TV, parent of the Cignal HD team. The PSL resumed its games on February 26, 2021, with the staging of the 2021 PSL Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup, 2021 Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup at the Subic Bay Free Port. After the beach tournament, the PSL intended to resume its indoor conferences for the 2021 season. Philippine Super Liga
The Philippine Super Liga (PSL; alternatively spelled as Philippine Superliga) was a non-professional corporate club women's volleyball league in the Philippines. It was first organized by SportsCore Event Management and Consultancy, Inc. and later owned by Athletic Events & Sports Management Group (ACES), Inc. The league was envisioned to provide former collegiate players a league with which they can continue with their volleyball career. The PSL also had a men's division from 2013 to 2014, although its beach volleyball tournament both have a women's and men's division since its inception. Foton Tornadoes
The Chery Tiggo Crossovers are a professional women's volleyball team in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL). The team is owned by United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI). The team debuted in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) during the 2014 Grand Prix as the Foton Tornadoes. Heading to the 2020 season, the team was renamed to Chery Tiggo Crossovers. On March 10, 2021, the team announced it has joined the professional PVL. They became the first-ever volleyball champions in a fully-professional league when they won the 2021 PVL Open Conference title. International tournaments As the champion of the 2015 PSL Grand Prix, Foton represented the Philippines, playing as Foton Pilipinas, in the 2016 Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship held in Biñan, Laguna. Shiela Marie Pineda
Shiela Marie "Bang" Pineda (born January 21, 1991) is a Filipino volleyball athlete. Career Pineda played for Adamson Lady Falcons during the UAAP Season 75 being named Best Server and the UAAP Season 76. She then played for Cagayan Valley Lady Rising Suns in the 11th Season Open Conference being named Best Digger and 12th Season Reinforced Open Conference before joining Petron Tri-Activ Spikers. In the 2017 season of the Philippine SuperLiga, Pineda and teammate Frances Molina of Petron XCS won the bronze medal in the Beach Challenge Cup. Petron Blaze Spikers swept the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers in the All-Filipino Conference finals and won the championship. The F2 Logistics Cargo Movers is a professional women's volleyball club in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL). The team is owned by Efren E. Uy (Chairman, President, and CEO) of F2 Logistics Philippines, Inc. Background The F2 Logistics Cargo Movers was formed by F2 Logistics Philippines Inc. The Subic Special Economic and Freeport Zone, often shorterned as Subic Bay or Subic, is a special economic zone and freeport area covering portions of the city of Olongapo and the town of Subic in Zambales, and the towns of Morong and Hermosa in Bataan. 2021 PSL Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup
The 2021 Gatorade PSL Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup was the first conference and for the Philippine Super Liga's ninth season. The tournament was held on February 26 and 27, 2021 at the Subic Tennis Center of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority at Subic Bay. The tournament marked the resumption of PSL games since the cancellation of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament was approved by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), through its Resolution 79, allowing the staging of the tournament using a bubble setup in Subic. It became the final tournament of the PSL. 2020 PSL Season
The 2020 PSL season was the eighth season of the Philippine Super Liga (PSL) which began on February 29, 2020 with the 2020 Grand Prix Conference. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the end of the season with the Grand Prix being the only conference held. The Grand Prix Conference prematurely ended on March 23, 2020 after the PSL indefinitely postponed games. Prior to the suspension, its last played game day March 10, 2020 was held behind closed doors. The PSL attempted to resume play through the Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup, an invitational beach volleyball tournament open to non-PSL teams in November in Subic. PLDT Home Fibr Hitters
The PLDT High Speed Hitters (formerly the Smart Giga Hitters and the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters) is the professional women's volleyball team owned by PLDT. History The team debuted in 2018 as the Smart Prepaid Giga Hitters. The team was owned by Smart Communications. For the 2018 PSL Invitational Cup, the team partnered with the Philippine Army Lady Troopers and competed as the Smart–Army Giga Hitters. In September 2018, the PayMaya High Flyers, their affiliate team in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), was merged with the team. In February 2019, the Smart Prepaid Giga Hitters changed its name to the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters. The team transferred to the PVL in February 2021, following the league's professionalization.
