2021 Music Victoria Awards
The 2021 Music Victoria Awards were the 16th Annual Music Victoria Awards. The ceremony took place on 9 December 2021 at the Melbourne Recital Centre. The 2021 awards featured a number of changes, including a brand new category for Best Pop Act and the inaugural Arts Access Victoria Amplify Award (for deaf and disabled musicians). All genre categories will now be assessed on the act rather than album, with the requirement that nominees have released at least multiple recordings between 1 July 2020 – 30 June 2021. New CEO Simone Schinkel headed up the event for the first time this year, taking over from Music Victoria founder, Patrick Donovan. Schinkel said "As part of our commitment to continual improvement we have refined our Awards criteria, categories and judging processes which we believe will more accurately reflect and reward the diverse music community in Victoria." The Avalanches
The Avalanches are an Australian electronic music group formed in Melbourne in 1997. They are known for their studio albums ''Since I Left You'' (2000), ''Wildflower'' (2016), and '' We Will Always Love You'' (2020), as well as their live and recorded DJ sets. The group currently consists of Robbie Chater, Tony Di Blasi and Andy Szekeres. Career 1994–1996: Origins Three future Avalanches members formed Alarm 115 in Melbourne in 1994 as a noise punk outfit inspired by Drive Like Jehu, The Fall, and Ultra Bide. King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are an Australian rock band formed in 2010 in Melbourne, Victoria. Shouse (duo)
Shouse () are an Australian-New Zealand electronic music duo consisting of Jack Madin and Ed Service. They are best known for their 2017 single "Love Tonight", which experienced renewed popularity in 2021 after various remixes of it were used in TikTok trends. Career In 2011, Ed Service moved from the Hutt Valley near Wellington, New Zealand to Melbourne, in order to become part of the dance music scene in Australia. While in a nightclub in Melbourne he met local musician Jack Madin, who has a background in folk and rock music, the two musicians decided to become an underground, 'weirdo-house' duo called Shouse. Cry Club is a queer pop-punk duo from Melbourne, Australia, who formed as a group in 2018. They released their debut album ''God I'm Such a Mess'' in November 2020. Geoffrey David O'Connor is an Australian indie pop musician and producer based in Melbourne. He released his debut studio album ''Liquorice Night'' in 2007, under the alias of Sly Hats. Alexandra Lahey ( ) (born 30 July 1992) is an Australian alternative rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Her debut album, ''I Love You Like a Brother'' was released on 6 October 2017 and peaked at No. 15 on the ARIA Albums Chart. ''Mood Valiant'' is the third studio album by Australian neo-soul quartet Hiatus Kaiyote, released in 2021 on Brainfeeder. The album peaked at number 4 on the ARIA charts.
