2020–21 Handbollsligan
The 2020–21 Handbollsligan was the 87th season of the top division of Swedish handball. 15 teams competed in the league. The eight highest placed teams qualified for the playoffs, whereas teams 11–13 had to play relegation playoffs against teams from the second division, and teams 14 and 15 were relegated automatically. IK Sävehof won the regular season and also won the playoffs to claim their seventh Swedish title. Handbollsligan ''(literally, "The Handball league")'' is the highest league in the league system of Swedish handball, and comprises the top 14 Swedish handball teams. The first season began in 1931–32. The season ends with a playoff. Structure The season starts in September with a regular season comprising 14 teams meeting each other twice. A total of 26 rounds. The eight best teams after the regular season qualifies for the play-off. The 14th team is relegated, and the 11th, 12th and 13th team plays matches against the second, third and fourth from Allsvenskan to qualify for next season's Handbollsligan. The season ends with the finals in the beginning of May and the winning team qualifies directly to EHF European League and the losing team qualifies for the EHF European Cup. Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna Kristianstad (), or IFK Kristianstad, is a Swedish handball club based in Kristianstad. They play in Handbollsligan, the top level of Swedish men's handball. The club was founded in 1899 as a multi-sport club. The handball team made its debut in 1925 and has been the only section of the club since 2000. The club plays its home matches at Kristianstad Arena. Kristianstad have won eight Swedish Championship (SM) gold medals. They won their first gold in 1941. From 1946 to 1957 they were a consistent top team, finishing in the top four every year and winning three golds. They were again a contender in the 1970s, losing the final in 1975. OV Helsingborg HK
OV Helsingborg HK, is a handball team from Helsingborg, Sweden, which currently plays in Handbollsligan, the top level of Swedish men's handball. The club was founded in 1994 as a merger of Vikingarnas IF (founded in 1941) and HF Olympia (founded in 1963). Vikingarna have been Swedish champions three times (1961, 1967 and 1981). They last played in the top level in 1990. Olympia were less successful, but played two seasons in the top division from 1977 to 1979. OV Helsingborg reached the top division in 2007, 2009 and 2017 but were immediately relegated all three times. In 2019 and 2020 they played in the top division again for two seasons before they were relegated. In 2022 they will play the top division again. Redbergslids IK (RIK), is a handball team from Gothenburg, Sweden founded in 1916. Redbergslids is the most successful club in Sweden, having won 20 Swedish Championship titles. Home games are played in Prioritet Serneke Arena. Redbergslid is the only Scandinavian club to win the EHF Champions League ( 1959). They also reached the final of the EHF Cup Winner's Cup in 2003. Önnereds HK
Önnereds HK is a handball club based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Around 60 teams are organized in the club. Since 1965, handball has been played in the Gothenburg district of Önnered. In 1985, the club was split into a football and a handball department. The handball club moved to the Älvsborg district. In 1992, the ÖHK-hallen was built, which has been the club's home ground since then and now hold up to 1000 spectators. In addition to the large hall, the club also has two smaller ones. The women's team played in the top Swedish division, the Elitserien, in the 2009/10 season. After being relegated in Summer 2010, they compete in the Allsvenskan. IFK Ystad HK is a Swedish handball club based in Ystad, founded in 1927. History The club won promotion to the top division, at the time known as Allsvenskan, in 1941, but were relegated after one season. They did not return until 1997, when the league had been renamed Elitserien. In 1998–99, IFK Ystad finished 7th in the autumn season and qualified for the spring season of Elitserien. They finished last (8th) in the spring league, but still qualified for the premilinary round of the playoffs. Eskilstuna Guif is a handball club based in Eskilstuna, Sweden, which currently competes in Handbollsligan, the top domestic handball league. The club was founded in 1896 as Godtemplarnas Ungdoms- och Idrottsförening (The Good Templars' Youth and Sport Club).
