2020 PSL Season
The 2020 PSL season was the eighth season of the Philippine Super Liga (PSL) which began on February 29, 2020 with the 2020 Grand Prix Conference. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the end of the season with the Grand Prix being the only conference held. The Grand Prix Conference prematurely ended on March 23, 2020 after the PSL indefinitely postponed games. Prior to the suspension, its last played game day March 10, 2020 was held behind closed doors. The PSL attempted to resume play through the Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup, an invitational beach volleyball tournament open to non-PSL teams in November in Subic. However the plan was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions anticipated until the end of the year. The PSL plans to hold the beach tournament sometime in February 2021. One Sports (Philippines)
One Sports is a Philippine Free-to-air television network owned by Nation Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) a sister networks of TV5 Network, Inc. and Cignal TV, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of MediaQuest Holdings, Inc. media arm of PLDT Beneficial Trust Fund. Marinerang Pilipina
The Marinerang Pilipina Lady Skippers are a professional women's volleyball team in the Philippine Super Liga (PSL). The team debuted in the 2019 PSL All-Filipino Conference. It is affiliated with the Marinerong Pilipino Skippers men's basketball team in the PBA D-League. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 season of the PSL was cancelled. Prior to the beginning of 2021 season, the team, along with two other member teams took an indefinite leave of absence from the league. Mary Joy Baron
Mary Joy Dela Cruz Baron (born December 12, 1995), also known as Majoy Baron, is a Filipino volleyball player. She went to Concepcion Catholic School in Concepcion, Tarlac. She attended college at De La Salle University. She is currently playing for the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers playing as a middle blocker. Baron is also part of the Philippine National Women’s Volleyball Team. Career Baron was a member of the DLSU Lady Spikers which won the women's UAAP Volleyball Championship from year 2016 to 2018. Baron won the UAAP Season 78 Best Blocker award in April 2016. The following year, she won the Most Valuable Player award for UAAP Season 79. With F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, Baron won the 2017 PSL Grand Prix Conference championship and was awarded the Second Best Middle Blocker. The Generika Ayala Lifesavers are a professional women's volleyball team owned by Actimed, Inc. (Generika Drugstore) in partnership with Ayala Corporation. History Generika Drugstore first became involved in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) when it sponsored the Philippine Army Lady Troopers during the 2014 All-Filipino Conference, playing as the "Generika-Army Lady Troopers". For the following conference, the company formed its own team composed of the coaching staff and most of the players from the disbanded AirAsia Flying Spikers. The PLDT High Speed Hitters (formerly the Smart Giga Hitters and the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters) is the professional women's volleyball team owned by PLDT. History The team debuted in 2018 as the Smart Prepaid Giga Hitters. The team was owned by Smart Communications. For the 2018 PSL Invitational Cup, the team partnered with the Philippine Army Lady Troopers and competed as the Smart–Army Giga Hitters. In September 2018, the PayMaya High Flyers, their affiliate team in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), was merged with the team. In February 2019, the Smart Prepaid Giga Hitters changed its name to the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters. The team transferred to the PVL in February 2021, following the league's professionalization. Katherine Bell (volleyball)
Katherine Briana "Khat" Bell (born May 5, 1993) is an American volleyball player who played for the Petron Blaze Spikers in the Philippine Super Liga from 2018 to 2020. She currently plays for Korea Expressway Corporation Hi-Pass in the Korean V-League. Early life Bell was born on March 5, 1993 to Kenneth Bell and Regina Williams. She was born in San Diego, California though she considers Mesquite, Texas as her hometown. She has two sisters and a brother. The Petron Blaze Spikers were a professional women's volleyball team that played in the Philippine Super Liga (PSL) from 2013 to 2020. After the cancellation of the 2020 season of the PSL due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the team took a leave of absence from the league and released all its players. The team was owned by Petron Corporation. The company's involvement in volleyball began in 2002 when it established the Petron Ladies Beach Volleyball Tournament. Team history Petron became the first team to sweep a PSL tournament with a 13–0 record and claim the 2015 All-Filipino championship, its second consecutive PSL title.
