Municipal elections were held in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia on October 17, 2020. Westmount (2001 pop.: 3,000) is a suburban community in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. Kentville, Nova Scotia
Kentville is an incorporated town in Nova Scotia. It is the most populous town in the Annapolis Valley. As of 2021, the town's population was 6,630. Its census agglomeration is 26,929. History Kentville owes its location to the Cornwallis River which, downstream from Kentville, becomes a large tidal river at the Minas Basin. The riverbank at the current location of Kentville provided an easy fording point. The Mi'kmaq name for the location was "Penooek". The ford and later the bridge in Kentville made the area an important crossroads for other settlements in the Annapolis Valley. Kentville also marked the limit of navigation of sailing ships. Michael Savage (politician)
Michael John Savage (born May 13, 1960) is an Irish-born Canadian politician, who was elected Mayor of the Halifax Regional Municipality on October 20, 2012. He previously served as a Liberal Party of Canada Member of Parliament for the riding of Dartmouth—Cole Harbour from 2004 to 2011. Biography Savage was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and spent his early years in South Wales before moving to Canada at age six. Savage is the son of former Nova Scotia premier John Savage. He grew up in Dartmouth, graduating from Prince Andrew High School and Dalhousie University. Before being elected, Savage was active in the community. He is a past president of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia and was a member of the board of directors of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada from 1998 to 2003. The Municipality of the District of Chester is a Nova Scotia district municipality occupying the northeastern half of Lunenburg County, Canada. Cumberland County is a county in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. History The name Cumberland was applied by Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Monckton to the captured Fort Beauséjour on June 18, 1755 in honour of the third son of King George II, William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, victor at Culloden in 1746 and Commander in Chief of the British forces. The Mi'kmaq name for the area was "Kwesomalegek" meaning "hardwood point". Cumberland County was founded on August 17, 1759. Whitney Pier (2016 population: 4,612) is an urban neighbourhood in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. Prior to the 20th century, this area was known as “Eastmount” or “South Sydney Harbour,” and had long been a fishing and farming district. New Waterford (Irish language: ''Port Lairge Ùr'') is an urban community in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality of Nova Scotia, Canada.
