A special election was held in the U.S. state of Minnesota on February 4, 2020, to elect a new member for District 30A in the Minnesota House of Representatives, caused by the resignation of Republican member Nick Zerwas. A primary election was held on January 14, 2020, to nominate Republican candidate. Paul Novotny, the Republican nominee, won the special election. Mary Kiffmeyer
Mary Kiffmeyer (born December 29, 1946) is an American politician. She served as Minnesota Secretary of State from 1999 to 2007 and went on to serves in the Minnesota legislature. A member of the Republican Party of Minnesota, she previously represented District 30, which included parts of Hennepin, Sherburne, and Wright counties. Early life The oldest of 14 children, Kiffmeyer was raised in Pierz, Minnesota. Elk River is a city in Sherburne County, Minnesota, United States, approximately 34 miles northwest of Minneapolis. It is situated at the confluence of the Mississippi and Elk Rivers. Paul Novotny (born May 26, 1966) is an American politician serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2020. A member of the Republican Party of Minnesota, Novotny represents District 30B in east-central Minnesota, which includes the cities of Elk River and Otsego and parts of Anoka, Sherburne, and Wright Counties. Early life, education, and career Novotny grew up on a dairy farm in Elk River, Minnesota, and graduated from Elk River High School. He graduated from North Hennepin Community College with an A.A.S. in law enforcement. Novotny has worked as a police officer in Princeton, Minnesota, and was a sergeant for the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office, serving as an investigative sergeant and a firearms instructor over the course of his 30-year career.
