The 2020 Elitettan was the eighth season of the Elitettan, the Football in Sweden, Swedish women's association football second tier division. The season started on 14 June 2020 and is expected to end on 8 November 2020. Umeå IK were the defending champions. Elitettan ( en, The Elite First) is the second highest division of Swedish women's football. Contested by 14 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Hammarby IP (short for "''Hammarby Idrottsplats''", "Hammarby Sports Ground") also known as "Kanalplan", is a football stadium in Stockholm, Sweden. The current main tenant is the women's football team Hammarby IF. The stadium was officially opened by Gustaf VI Adolf, at the time the crown prince of Sweden in 1915. Alingsås () is a locality and the seat of Alingsås Municipality in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. It had 24,482 inhabitants in 2010. Division 1 ( sv, Division 1 i fotboll för damer) is the third level in the league system of Swedish women's football and has six sections with 12 football teams in each. From 1978 to 1987, when the Damallsvenskan was created, it was the highest level of football in Sweden. Until 2013, when the Elitettan was created, it was the second highest level. 2019 Damallsvenskan
The 2019 Damallsvenskan was the 32nd season of the Swedish women's association football top division, Damallsvenskan. It began on 13 April 2019, and ended on 26 October. Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC are the defending champions, having won the competition in 2018. Kungsbacka DFF and KIF Örebro DFF were promoted from 2018 Elitettan after finishing first and second respectively. Kungsbacka makes their first appearance in Damallsvenskan. All matches can be viewed worldwide for a fee aDamallsvenskan TV. On 20 October, the winner of Damallsvenskan was settled, when FC Rosengård netted one point in the league table and gained an impregnable lead with one remaining round against then relatively new closest competitor Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC. This is their 10th win of Damallsvenskan, the first club to achieve that. They immediately put a star on top of their emblem to mark this.
