2020 Champions Cup
The 2020 Humpty's Champions Cup was scheduled to be held from April 29 to May 3, at the Olds Sportsplex in Olds, Alberta. On March 12, 2020, the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The teams that qualified were originally invited to play in the 2021 Champions Cup, providing that three quarters of their team stays intact. However, the 2021 event was changed so that the top 12 teams in the World were invited instead. Olds, Alberta
Olds ( ) is a town in central Alberta, Canada within Mountain View County and the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor. It is approximately south of Red Deer and north of Calgary. 2019 European Curling Championships
The 2019 Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships was held in 2019 to qualify European curling teams for the 2020 World Curling Championships and World Qualification Event. The A and B division competitions were held from November 16 to 23 at The Olympia Rink in Helsingborg, Sweden. The C division competition was held from April 13 to 17 at the Brașov Olympic Ice Rink in Brașov, Romania. John Epping
John Allan Epping (born March 20, 1983) is a Canadian curler from Toronto, Ontario. He currently skips his own team out of the Leaside Curling Club in East York, Toronto. Career Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Epping was a top junior curler, having won the Ontario Junior championship in 2004. At the 2004 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, his team finished with an 8-4 record, just out of the playoffs. He won the 2006 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship with Julie Reddick, Scott Foster and Leigh Armstrong. He won the 2007 provincial mixed as well, but could not defend his national title. After Juniors, Epping played third for Nick Rizzo until switching positions with Rizzo in 2006, and thus skipping the team. However, in 2007 he was picked up to play third for Olympic silver medallist Mike Harris. He'd only play one season for Harris before joining Wayne Middaugh's rink at second in 2008. 2019 Canada Cup
The 2019 Home Hardware Canada Cup was held from November 27 – December 1 at Sobeys Arena in Leduc, Alberta. The tournament winners were the first qualifiers for the 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. In the men's final, John Epping beat Kevin Koe to win his first Canada Cup. Koe was looking for his third title, having won the event in 2008 and 2015. In the women's final, Rachel Homan defeated Tracy Fleury to win her second Canada Cup event, her first in 2015. It was Fleury's first Canada Cup playoff appearance with her previous best finish a 2-4 round robin record. The total purse for the event was $265,000 with the winning teams to receive $40,000. 2020 World Men's Curling Championship
The 2020 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as the 2020 LGT World Men's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was scheduled to be held from March 28 to April 5 at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland. On March 14, 2020, the World Curling Federation announced the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was set to be the first event to start gathering points towards the 2022 Winter Olympic Qualification. Upon cancellation, the qualifying process was left unclear. It was later announced that any country who were scheduled to compete in the event and did not qualify through the 2021 World Championships would take part in a final Olympic Qualifying Tournament in December 2021. Jacques Gauthier (curler)
Jacques Gauthier (born October 17, 1998) is a Canadian curler from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He currently plays second on Team Kevin Koe. Career Gauthier played most of his junior career as third for J. T. Ryan. With Ryan, he won a silver medal at the 2019 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and a bronze medal at the 2018 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. In 2018, he got to play in his first World Junior Curling Championships as alternate for Tyler Tardi. The team won a gold medal. Ryan aged out of juniors after the 2019 championships and Gauthier formed his own team for the 2019–20 season. His rink of Jordan Peters, Brayden Payette and Zack Bilawka lost the final of the 2020 Manitoba Junior Provincials. The 2020 United States Men's Curling Championship was held from February 8 to 15, 2020 at the Eastern Washington University#University Recreation Center (URC), Eastern Washington University Recreation Center in Spokane, Washington. The event was held in conjunction with the 2020 United States Women's Curling Championship. John Shuster claimed his seventh United States Championship, defeating Rich Ruohonen in the final. Brad Gushue
Bradley Raymond Gushue, ONL ( ; born June 16, 1980) is a Canadian curler from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Gushue, along with teammates Russ Howard, Mark Nichols, Jamie Korab and Mike Adam, represented Canada in curling at the 2006 Winter Olympics, where they won the gold medal by defeating Finland 10–4. He also represented Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics, where he won a bronze medal. In addition to the Olympics, Gushue won the 2017 World Men's Curling Championship with teammates Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant, and Geoff Walker. The 2020 Tim Hortons Brier, Canada's national men's curling championship, was held from February 29 to March 8 at the Leon's Centre in Kingston, Ontario.
