2020 BinckBank Tour
The 2020 BinckBank Tour was a road cycling stage race that was originally scheduled to take place between 31 August and 6 September 2020 in Belgium. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the race was postponed by almost a month. It started on 29 September 2020 and ended on 3 October 2020. It was the 16th edition of the BinckBank Tour and was part of the 2020 UCI World Tour. Teams Twenty-four teams participated in the 2020 edition. All nineteen UCI WorldTeams were invited automatically and obliged to enter a team into the race. In addition, 5 wildcards were awarded to UCI ProTeams. Each team was allowed to enter up to seven riders; , , (with six each), and (with five) were the only teams not to do so. 94 of the 163 riders in the race finished. 2020 UCI World Tour
The 2020 UCI World Tour was a series of races that was scheduled to include thirty-six road cycling events throughout the 2020 cycling season. However, some of races were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tour started with the opening stage of the Tour Down Under on 21 January, and concluded with the final stage of the Vuelta a España on 8 November. Events The 2020 calendar was initially announced in June 2019. In October 2019, the calendar was officially presented by the UCI. Aalter
Aalter () is a municipality located between Bruges and Ghent in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Aalter, Bellem, , , Knesselare and . It is bordered on the north by Maldegem, on the east by Zomergem and Nevele, on the south by Deinze, and on the west by the province of West Flanders. The mayor is Pieter De Crem. Effective 1 January 2019, the municipality of Knesselare was merged into Aalter. Aalter was home to 29,242 people in 2021. Philippine is a small city in the province of Zeeland, Netherlands. It lies about southeast of Vlissingen. It is located on the border with Belgium, southwest of the city of Terneuzen. It received city rights in 1506. History The landlord, Hieronymus Lauweryn, who founded the town in 1505, named it after Philip I. A fortress was built with a triangular market square. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by a virus, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Individual Time Trial
An individual time trial (ITT) is a road bicycle race in which cyclists race alone against the clock (in French: ''contre la montre'' – literally "against the watch", in Italian: ''tappa a cronometro'' "stopwatch stage"). There are also track-based time trials where riders compete in velodromes, and team time trials (TTT). ITTs are also referred to as "the race of truth", as winning depends only on each rider's strength and endurance, and not on help provided by teammates and others riding ahead and creating a slipstream. Jasper Philipsen
Jasper Philipsen (born 2 March 1998) is a Belgian professional cyclist, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam . Career In July 2019, he was named in the startlist for the 2019 Tour de France. In October 2020, he was named in the startlist for the 2020 Vuelta a España, where he won stage 15. He participated in his second Tour de France in 2021 and while he did not win any stages he had many promising results including finishing on the stage podium a half dozen times. He rode in the 2021 Vuelta a España where he won two stages. He also wore the points classification jersey on several stages, being involved in a battle with Fabio Jakobsen for the jersey, before he decided it had been a successful race and chose to abandon about halfway through due to a mild fever.
