The 2019 World Modern Pentathlon Championships were held in Budapest, Hungary from 2 to 9 September 2019. Joanna Muir (born 30 August 1994) is a British modern pentathlete, who was part of the British squad that won the team event at the 2019 European Modern Pentathlon Championships, and came second in the women's relay event at the 2016 World Modern Pentathlon Championships. She came second at the opening event of the 2021 Modern Pentathlon World Cup. Muir competed in the modern pentathlon event at the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics. Career Muir was formerly a runner. She took up modern pentathlon at the age of 15, having also been involved in tetrathlon. After finishing her studying, she chose to become a full-time athlete. She trains at the University of Bath. Career In 2018, she was awarded the bronze medal of the women's competition at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, following the disqualification of Ukraine's Viktoriya Tereshchuk, due to a doping offense. She finished sixth in 2012. Prokopenko also set a world record time of 10:20.90 in the combined running and shooting segment. Katherine Elizabeth French (born 11 February 1991) is a British modern pentathlete who won the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Personal life French was born on 11 February 1991 in Meopham, near Gravesend, Kent. She was privately educated at the independent Cobham Hall School. She completed a degree in sports performance at the University of Bath, where she also trains at the Pentathlon GB High Performance Centre. French is married and lives in Chapmanslade, Wiltshire. Aleksander Leonidovich Lesun (russian: Александр Леонидович Лесун; born 1 July 1988) is a Belarusian-born naturalized Russian modern pentathlete. He is a multiple-time medalist at the World and European Championships, and was a top-ranked male modern pentathlete in the world by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM). Career Lesun started out his sporting career as a swimmer, before switching to modern pentathlon at the very young age. He first competed at the European and World Junior Championships in 2008, and had achieved five top-ten finishes. In late 2009, Lesun moved to Russia from Belarus, and obtained a dual citizenship and a Russian passport.
