The 2019 Philadelphia Phillies season was the 137th season in the history of the franchise, their 16th season at Citizens Bank Park, and their final season with manager Gabe Kapler. The Phillies improved from their record the prior year and finished with an 81–81 record (.500 winning percentage) for the first time since 2012, but missed the playoffs for the 8th straight season, despite spending nearly $400 million in the offseason. The National League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. Along with the American League Central it is one of two divisions to have every member win at least one World Series title. The division was created when the National League (along with the American League) added two expansion teams and divided into two divisions, East and West effective for the 1969 season. The National League's geographical alignment was rather peculiar as its partitioning was really more north and south instead of east and west. Two teams in the Eastern Time Zone, the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds, were in the same division as teams on the Pacific coast. Carlos Santana (born April 8, 1986), nicknamed "Slamtana," is a Dominican-American professional baseball designated hitter and first baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball (MLB). James Manuel Pazos (pronounced PAH-zohse; born May 5, 1991) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He has also played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, and Colorado Rockies. The history of the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball's National League began on November 1, 1882 with the organization of the Philadelphia Ball Club Limited.
