2019 Oyo State Gubernatorial Election
The 2019 Oyo State gubernatorial election occurred on March 9, 2019, the PDP nominee Seyi Makinde won the election, defeating Adebayo Adelabu of the APC. Seyi Makinde emerged PDP gubernatorial candidate after scoring 2,772 votes and defeating his closest rival, Ayo Adeseun, who received 21 votes. He picked Rauf Olaniyan as his running mate. Adebayo Adelabu was the APC candidate with Samuel Egunjobi as his running mate. Olufemi Lanlehin was the ADC candidate, while Christopher Alao-Akala stood for ADP. 42 candidates contested in the election. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde (born 25 December 1967) is a Nigerian businessman, politician and philanthropist who has served as Governor of Oyo State since 29 May 2019. He is an engineer and a subject matter expert on fluid and gas metering. He is the group managing director of Makon Group Limited; an indigenous oil and gas company in Nigeria. He established his first oil and gas private business called Makon Engineering and Technical Services, (METS) at the age of 29 in the year 1997, after earning years of work experience with international oil and gas companies. The Advanced Congress of Democrats (ACD) was an opposition political party in Nigeria, created and first registered in March 2006.
