2019 Memphis Tigers Football Team
The 2019 Memphis Tigers football team represented the University of Memphis in the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Tigers played their home games at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee, and competed in the West Division of the American Athletic Conference. They were led by fourth-year head coach Mike Norvell through the team's win in the American Championship Game, after which he left to fill the head coaching vacancy at Florida State. Offensive line coach Ryan Silverfield was initially named head coach of the team for their bowl game, the Cotton Bowl; the interim tag was removed and he was named the new head coach of the Tigers. Previous season The Tigers finished the 2018 season 8–6, 5–3 in AAC play to be co–champions of the West Division. Mike Norvell
Michael Kelly Norvell (born October 11, 1981) is an American college football coach who is currently head coach at Florida State. Norvell was previously the head coach at Memphis. He has coached at Arizona State, Pittsburgh, Tulsa, and Central Arkansas. He played wide receiver at the University of Central Arkansas from 2001 to 2005 and is the school's all-time receptions leader. Playing career Norvell attended the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) from 2001 to 2005 and played wide receiver. He set the school's all-time reception record with 213 pass receptions for 2,611 yards and 15 receiving touchdowns, 1 rushing touchdown, and 2 passing touchdowns during his career. 2018 UCF Knights Football Team
The 2018 UCF Knights football team represented the University of Central Florida (UCF) during the 2018 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They played their home games at Spectrum Stadium in Orlando, Florida, and were led by first-year head coach Josh Heupel. The Knights competed as members of the East Division of the American Athletic Conference. The 2018 season marked the 40th season of football for the Knights program. The 2018 campaign began with the Knights attempting to defend their AAC championship, as well as extend the nation's longest active winning streak, which stood at 13 games. For the first time in program history, the Knights were ranked in both the preseason AP Poll (#21) and preseason Coaches Poll (#23). Outland Trophy
The Outland Trophy is awarded to the best college football interior lineman in the United States as adjudged by the Football Writers Association of America. It is named after John H. Outland. One of only a few players ever to be named an All-American at two positions, Outland garnered consensus All-America honors in 1898 as a tackle and consensus honors as a halfback in 1899. Outland had always contended that football tackles and guards deserved greater recognition and conceived the Outland Trophy as a means of providing this recognition. Dustin Woodard (born March 8, 1998) is an American football center who is a free agent. He was drafted by the New England Patriots in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft after playing college football at Memphis. High school career Woodard played at Chandler High School in Chandler, Arizona. The Dave Rimington Trophy is awarded to the player considered to be the best American football center in college football. Dave Rimington was a center who played at the University of Nebraska from 1979 to 1982. Bryce Huff
Bryce Huff (born April 17, 1998) is an American football defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Memphis. Early years Huff grew up in Opelika, Alabama, where he spent most of his childhood. He later moved to Mobile, Alabama, where he attended St. Paul's Episcopal School. Patrick O'Neal Taylor Jr. (born April 29, 1998) is an American football running back for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Memphis. College career As a true freshman, Taylor was the Tigers' second-leading rusher with 546 yards on 93 carries and two touchdowns. He was Memphis' second-leading rusher again as a sophomore after rushing 157 times for 866 yards and a team-high 13 touchdowns while also catching 19 passes for 148 yards and one touchdown.
