2019 Limerick City And County Council Election
A Limerick City and County Council election was held in County Limerick and Limerick City in Ireland on 24 May 2019 as part of that year's local elections. All 40 councillors were elected for a five-year term of office from 6 local electoral areas (LEAs) by single transferable vote. The 2018 boundary review committee recommended significant changes to the LEAs in the 2014 elections due to terms of references requiring a maximum of seven councillors in each LEA and changes in population revealed in the 2016 census. These changes were adopted by statutory instrument No. 624/2018. The election was held alongside a plebiscite on whether or not Limerick City and County would establish the position of a directly elected mayor for the council under the Local Government Act 2019. Limerick City and County Council ( ga, Comhairle Cathrach agus Contae Luimnigh) is the authority responsible for Local government in the Republic of Ireland, local government in the Limerick, City of Limerick and County Limerick in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It came into operation on 1 June 2014 after the 2014 Irish local elections, 2014 local elections. Richard O'Donoghue
Richard O'Donoghue (born 1970/1971) is an Irish Independent politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Limerick County constituency since the 2020 general election. Political career O'Donoghue is a self-employed building contractor. He first stood for election in the 2009 local elections, when he was an unsuccessful Fianna Fáil candidate for Limerick County Council. At the 2014 local elections, he won a seat on the new Limerick City and County Council, but he left Fianna Fáil in December 2015 and sat as independent. At the 2016 general election, O'Donoghue stood as an independent candidate in the Limerick County constituency. He won only 6.4% of the first-preference votes, and was not elected. Limerick City is a parliamentary constituency in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas. 2020 Irish General Election
The 2020 Irish general election took place on Saturday 8 February, to elect the 33rd Dáil, the lower house of Ireland's parliament. The election was called following the dissolution of the 32nd Dáil by the president, at the request of the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, on 14 January 2020. The members, Teachtaí Dála (TDs), were elected by single transferable vote in multi-seat constituencies. It was the first election since 1918 to be held on a weekend. The election was an unprecedented three-way race, with the three largest parties each winning a share of the vote between 20% and 25%. Fianna Fáil finished with 38 seats (including one TD returned automatically as outgoing Ceann Comhairle). Newcastle West () or simply Newcastle (''An Caisleán Nua'', formerly anglicized Castlenoe) is a town in west County Limerick, Ireland. Brian Leddin is an Irish Green Party politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Limerick City constituency since the 2020 general election. Kilmallock () is a town in south County Limerick, Ireland, near the border with County Cork. There is a Dominican Priory in the town and King's Castle (or King John's Castle). The remains of medieval walls which encircled the settlement are still visible. Cappamore () is a small town in northeast County Limerick in the midwest of Ireland. It is also a parish in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly. Rathkeale () is a town in west County Limerick, in Ireland. It is 30 km (18 mi) southwest of Limerick city on the N21 road to Tralee, County Kerry, and lies on the River Deel.
