2019 Kerry County Council Election
An election to all 33 seats on Kerry County Council was held on 24 May 2019 as part of the 2019 Irish local elections. County Kerry was divided into 6 local electoral areas (LEAs) to elect councillors for a five-year term of office on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV). Boundary review Following a recommendation of the 2018 Boundary Committee, the boundaries of the LEAs were altered from those used in the 2014 elections. Its terms of reference required no change in the total number of councillors but set a lower maximum LEA size of seven councillors, exceeded by three of the four 2014 LEAs. Kerry County Council
Kerry County Council ( ga, Comhairle Contae Chiarraí) is the authority responsible for local government in County Kerry, Ireland. As a county council, it is governed by the Local Government Act 2001. The council is responsible for housing and community, roads and transportation, urban planning and development, amenity and culture, and environment. The council has 33 elected members. Elections are held every five years and are by single transferable vote. The head of the council has the title of Cathaoirleach (Chairperson). The county administration is headed by a Chief Executive, Moira Murrell. The county town is Tralee. 2020 Irish General Election
The 2020 Irish general election took place on Saturday 8 February, to elect the 33rd Dáil, the lower house of Ireland's parliament. The election was called following the dissolution of the 32nd Dáil by the president, at the request of the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, on 14 January 2020. The members, Teachtaí Dála (TDs), were elected by single transferable vote in multi-seat constituencies. It was the first election since 1918 to be held on a weekend. The election was an unprecedented three-way race, with the three largest parties each winning a share of the vote between 20% and 25%. Fianna Fáil finished with 38 seats (including one TD returned automatically as outgoing Ceann Comhairle). Sinn Féin made significant gains; it received the most first-preference votes, and won 37 seats, the party's best result since 1923. ''The Kerryman'' is a weekly local newspaper published in County Kerry in Ireland by Independent News & Media who are a subsidiary of Mediahuis. The newspaper was founded in 1904 by Maurice Griffin and cousins Thomas and Daniel Nolan. Independent News & Media, then known as Independent Newspapers Limited acquired ''The Kerryman'' in 1972. It has three different editions – North Kerry, South Kerry and Tralee. All three editions are tabloid format newspaper. The move of the Tralee edition to a tabloid format in 2006 meant that ''The Kerryman'' became Ireland's first dual format newspaper. The last broadsheet edition hit shops in 2009. Patrick Daly is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Kerry constituency since the 2020 general election. He qualified as a solicitor in 1996, he worked in the United States before moving to Dublin. He returned to Tralee, establishing his own solicitor's practice. Toiréasa Ferris
Toiréasa Ferris (born 24 March 1980) is a former Irish Sinn Féin politician who has served as a Kerry County Councillor for Tralee from 2003 to 2019. Personal life Ferris is a part-time tutor in law at Tralee Community College. She lives in Ardfert, County Kerry with her husband Patrick and their two children. In 2001, Ferris spent seven months working in Mexico with a local workers' rights group. Marie Moloney
Marie Moloney (born 26 August 1958) is an Irish Labour Party politician and former member of Seanad Éireann. From Coolick, Kilcummin, near Killarney, Moloney was educated at the local national school and at Killarney Technical College. From 1992 to 2007 she was constituency secretary of Breeda Moynihan-Cronin, who was then a Labour Party TD for the Kerry South constituency. Michael Gleeson (born 1946 in Killarney, County Kerry) is an Irish politician and former sportsperson. Sporting career He played Gaelic football with his local club Spa and was a member of the Kerry senior inter-county team from 1969 until 1972. He was also a member of the Kerry junior team and won an All-Ireland Junior Football Championship medal in 1967. He won 3 Kerry Senior Football Championships, a Munster Senior Club Football Championship and an All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship with East Kerry. With Spa he won 7 East Kerry Senior Football Championship titles and a County Intermediate Football Championship.
