2019 Hwaebul Cup
The 2019 Hwaebul Cup was the seventh edition of the Hwaebul Cup (홰불, ''Torch'') celebrating North Korea's Youth Day. Ryŏmyŏng were the defending champions. The winner, Ryŏmyŏng, qualified for the 2020 AFC Cup. Group stage The 12 teams were divided into two groups. The group winners and runners-up advanced to the semi-finals. In Group A, Ryŏmyŏng finished first with five wins and one draw, and Amrokkang finished second with three wins, one draw and two defeats. In Group B, P'yŏngyang City finished first with four wins and one draw, and Hwaebul finished second with three wins, one draw and one defeat. Hwaebul Cup
The Hwaebul Cup (홰불, ''Torch'') is an annual association football competition in men's domestic football in North Korea, organised by the DPR Korea Football Association. The competition is held for Youth Day, 28 August, one of North Korea's major holidays. Competition format Beginning in July or August, the competition proceeds in two stages. The first stage consists of the teams divided into two groups playing in a single round-robin basis, with the winner and second-place team of each group advancing to the knockout stage consisting of two semi-final matches and a final, which is played on 28 August of each year. Venues All matches are played at one stadium in Pyongyang, which varies year to year. Amnokgang Sports Club is a North Korean multi-sports club. Based in Pyongyang, the club competes in the DPR Korea Premier Football League. History Affiliated with the Ministry of People's Security, it was founded on 19 September 1947. The club is best known for its men's and women's football teams. The men's football team presently plays in the DPR Korea Premier League, and in various domestic cup competitions. They won several competitions in the 1960s, and won national titles in 2001, 2006, and 2008. Rivalries Amnokgang's primary rivals are April 25. Hwaebul Sports Club is an association football club from Pochon, North Korea, founded in 2013. It is the sports club of the Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League and is based at the 5,000 capacity Hwaebul Stadium. They are presently playing in the DPR Korea Premier Football League. History The team was given its name by Kim Jong-un when it was founded, in the hopes that the club would be a guiding light for football in North Korea, as "Hwaebul" means "torch" in Korean. Despite its newness, the club has already achieved considerable success, finishing third in their inaugural season, winning the Highest Class Football League in the second season, along with securing several wins in the Paektusan Prize, the Poch'ŏnbo Torch Prize, and other competitions. 2020 AFC Cup
The 2020 AFC Cup was the 17th edition of the AFC Cup, Asia's secondary club football tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The competition was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic after group stage matches on 11 March 2020, and was originally to restart on 23 September 2020. Sosan Stadium
Sŏsan Stadium () is a football stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 25,000 people, and was built by the North Korean army in 1988 for the 13th World Festival of Youth and Students. It lies next to Ryanggang Hotel which was completed around the same time in 1989. The stadium was modernised in 2011, receiving a new artificial turf pitch to FIFA standards, an electronic scoreboard, new seats for spectators, and an improved medical facility. The 2018–19 DPR Korea Premier Football League was the second season of the reformed DPR Korea Premier Football League, the top North Korean association football league, to use a home-and-away format.The league started on 1 December 2018 and continued until October 2019.
