2019 Europe Top 16 Cup
The 2019 Europe Top 16 Cup (also referred to as the 2019 CCB Europe Top 16 Cup for sponsorship reasons) was a table tennis competition held from 2–3 February in Montreux, Switzerland, organised under the authority of the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU). It was the 48th edition of the event, and the fourth time that it had been held in Switzerland. Events were held in men's singles and women's singles, and the three medallists in each event qualified for the 2019 Men's and Women's World Cups. Montreux
Montreux (, , ; frp, Montrolx) is a Swiss municipality and town on the shoreline of Lake Geneva at the foot of the Alps. Panagiotis Gionis
Panagiotis Gionis (born 7 January 1980) is a Greek table tennis player and a dentist. He is a member in the Greece National Team and has competed in 4 Olympics and many World and European Championships. He has been playing professionally in Germany and France since 2001. Currently, he is playing for Greek club Panathinaikos, German club Borussia Düsseldorf and is being sponsored by TAMASU BUTTERFLY. Ovidiu George Ionescu (born 28 June 1989) is a Romanian professional table tennis player who plays with Post SV Mühlhausen and SCM Gloria Buzău. Career Ionescu competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the singles event, in which he was eliminated in the third round by Marcos Freitas. Tiago André Barata Feio Peixoto Apolónia (born 28 July 1986) is a Portuguese table tennis player for German club TTF LIEBHERR Ochsenhausen and Portugal. As of August 2016, he is ranked the number eighteenth player in the world. Career Born in Lisbon, Apolónia began playing table tennis aged six at his hometown club Estrela da Amadora. Marcos André Sousa da Silva Freitas (born 8 April 1988) is a Portuguese table tennis player who has won European Championships in singles, doubles, and team events. He participated at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing where he got knocked out in the Round of 64. In the same year he won the bronze medal in the men's doubles at the European Championship with Tiago Apolónia. Three years later at the 2011 Table Tennis European Championships he went on to win the gold medal with his doubles partner Andrej Gaćina. Kristian Gunnar Karlsson (; born 6 August 1991) is a Swedish professional table tennis player. Career Born in Trollhättan, Västra Götaland, Karlsson started to play table tennis in his hometown club at the age of 8. He remained in Trollhättan until he was 16, subsequently he moved away from home to go to high school. During his high school years Karlsson had 10 training sessions a week. In 2011 he signed to Halmstad BTK and began to rose through the ranks quickly.
