2019 Dublin City Council Election
An election to Dublin City Council took place on 24 May 2019 as part of the Irish local elections. 63 councillors were elected from 11 local electoral areas (LEAs) on the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV) for a five-year term of office. In 2014, there were nine LEAs each electing between six and nine councillors. Following the recommendations of the Local Area Boundary Committee Report in June 2018, there are now eleven LEAs each electing between five and seven councillors. Sinn Féin had a bad election, losing eight seats to return with eight councillors, going from being the largest party to the fourth largest. Fianna Fáil won eleven seats an increase of two, to become the largest party on the council for the first time since 1999. Dublin City Council ( ga, Comhairle Cathrach Bhaile Átha Cliath) is the authority responsible for local government in the city of Dublin in Ireland. As a city council, it is governed by the Local Government Act 2001. Until 2001, the council was known as Dublin Corporation. The council is responsible for public housing and community, roads and transportation, urban planning and development, amenity and culture and environment. The council has 63 elected members and is the largest local council in Ireland. Elections are held every five years and are by single transferable vote. Vincent "Ballyfermot" Jackson (born 1 March 1966) is an Irish independent politician who has served as a Dublin City Councillor since May 1991. He previously served as Lord Mayor of Dublin from June 2006 to June 2007. Originally a carpenter by profession, he became involved with a variety of community and youth projects in Ballyfermot in Dublin. Ciarán Cuffe
Ciarán Cuffe (born 3 April 1963) is an Irish politician who is a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Ireland for the Dublin constituency since July 2019. He is a member of the Green Party, part of the European Green Party. He previously served as a Minister of State from 2010 to 2011. Mary Freehill
Mary Freehill (born 22 July 1946) is a Dublin City Councillor, served as the Lord Mayor of Dublin during the Millennium year from 5 July 1999 to 3 July 2000. She is the Labour Party councillor for the Kimmage–Rathmines electoral area on Dublin City Council. Freehill was born and went to school in the town of Ballyconnell, County Cavan. Her parents were Bernard Freehill, a building contractor and Kathleen Freehill (nee Donohoe) of Daisy Hill, Ballyconnell. Patrick Costello (born 21 May 1980) is an Irish Green Party politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin South-Central constituency since the 2020 general election. Terence Flanagan
Terence Flanagan (born 1 January 1975) is an Irish Fine Gael politician who has served as a Dublin City Councillor since May 2019. He previously served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin North-East constituency from 2007 to 2016. Mícheál Mac Donncha (born Michael McConkey) is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who served as the Lord Mayor of Dublin from 2017 to 2018. He has been a Dublin City Councillor since 2014. Naoise Ó Muirí (born 15 September 1972) is an Irish Fine Gael politician who has served as a Dublin City Councillor since June 2004. He previously served as Lord Mayor of Dublin from 2012 to 2013.
