Black Mountain is a District Electoral Area used to elect 7 councillors to Belfast City Council. It is named after the Black Mountain. The district was created for the 2014 election. Kate Nicholl
Kate Siobhan Nicholl (born 4 May 1988) is a Northern Irish politician who is an MLA for Belfast South and who served as the 79th Lord Mayor of Belfast from June 2021 until her election as an MLA in May 2022. She is a member of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland. She was the first Lord Mayor in recent history not to be born in the United Kingdom or Ireland. Early life Nicholl was born in Marondera, Zimbabwe. Her father comes from County Down and her mother Helen comes from South Africa, where her family was involved in anti-Apartheid activism. Frank McCoubrey
Frank McCoubrey (born 5 February 1967) is a Unionist politician and loyalist in Northern Ireland, as well as a community activist and researcher. He is a leading member of the Ulster Political Research Group (UPRG) and a member of Belfast City Council, representing the Court area as a Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) councillor. McCoubrey is a native of Highfield, Belfast. Emergence in UPRG In 1996 he was an unsuccessful candidate in the Northern Ireland Forum election in West Belfast. Court is one of the ten district electoral areas (DEA) in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Located in the north and west of the city, the district elects six members to Belfast City Council and contains the wards of Ballygomartin, Clonard, Falls, Forth River, Shankill, and Woodvale. Court is split between the Belfast North and Belfast West constituencies for the Northern Ireland Assembly and UK Parliament. History The DEA was created for the 1985 local elections. It initially contained six wards, three of which came from the abolished Area E, with the remainder from Area G. Séanna Walsh
Séanna Walsh or Séanna Breathnach (born 1957) is a Sinn Féin member of Belfast City Council and a former volunteer in the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA). Early life Walsh was born in the Short Strand area of East Belfast but for a time lived in Ravenhill Avenue until loyalists intimidated the Walsh family out of their home. Séanna's great grandfather had been shot dead in the same area by B-Specials when Northern Ireland was founded. IRA activity and imprisonment In 1973, Walsh was arrested along with a number of fellow IRA men while robbing a bank and was sentenced to five years' imprisonment. John Finucane (born 1980) is an Irish lawyer, footballer, and Sinn Féin politician.
