2018–19 Curling World Cup – Third Leg
The Third Leg of the 2018–19 Curling World Cup took place from January 30 to February 3, 2019 at the Jönköping Curling Club in Jönköping, Sweden. Korea's Kim Min-ji defeated Sweden's Anna Hasselborg in the women's final. Canada's Matt Dunstone defeated Sweden's Niklas Edin in the men's final. Colton Lott
Colton Lott (born July 21, 1995) is a Canadian curler from Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba. He currently plays second on Team Matt Dunstone, and also curls with Kadriana Lott in mixed doubles. Career Juniors Lott's first curling success came with representing Manitoba at the 2011 Canada Winter Games, where he won a bronze medal, playing third for the team, which was skipped by Kyle Doering. This same team won the Manitoba Junior championship in 2012, and represented the province at the 2012 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. There, the team posted a 9-3 round robin record, won a tiebreaker, and then settled for the bronze medal, after losing to Northern Ontario in the semifinal. Jiang Xindi, nicknamed "Cindy" (; born January 26, 1997 in Harbin, China) is a Chinese female curler. She was part of the Chinese women's curling team on 2018 Winter Olympics. Career Jiang competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, where the Chinese team participated in the women's curling tournament. She competed at the 2018 World Women's Curling Championship where her team placed seventh. Jiang also won the bronze medal at the 2017 and 2018 Pacific-Asia Curling Championships and the silver medal at the 2013 and 2015 Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Championships. To start the 2019–20 season, Jiang and her team won the World Curling Tour event, the 2019 Hokkaido Bank Curling Classic. "Making The Bus Monitor Cry" is one of three videos filmed in June 2012 which focused on a bus monitor, who was targeted for bullying by four seventh graders attending Greece Athena Middle School. The video went viral and received numerous video responses and news coverage. A donation campaign was launched for the victim. Background The bus monitor, Karen Huff Klein (68 at the time of the filming) was an employee of the Greece Central School District in Upstate New York. After serving 20 years as a bus driver, Klein had been a bus monitor for 3 years. Klein, at the time of the incident, had been a widow since c. 1995 and had eight grandchildren; she was partly deaf and used a hearing aid. Darcy Robertson (born Darcy Kirkness, March 13, 1965) is a Canadians, Canadian curling, curler. She is a three-time provincial champion and former Canadian junior champion. Career Robertson had a successful junior career which involved winning the 1984 Canadian Junior Curling Championships with her younger sister Barb Spencer, Barb, Janet Harvey and Barbara Fetch. Two years later, Robertson, her sister Barb, Fetch and Faye Irwin would win the Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts, provincial women's championship and would be given the right to represent Manitoba at the 1986 Scott Tournament of Hearts. The 2018–19 Curling World Cup was the first edition of the Curling World Cup, held between men's, women's, and mixed doubles teams. It had three legs and a Grand Final, taking place in Suzhou, China, Omaha, United States, Jönköping, Sweden, and Beijing, China respectively. Format Curling World Cup matches have eight ends, rather than the standard ten ends. Ties after eight ends are decided by a shoot-out, with each team throwing a stone and the one closest to the button winning. A win in eight or fewer ends earns a team 3 points, a shoot-out win 2 points, a shoot-out loss 1 point, and 0 points for a loss in eight or fewer ends. Each event has eight teams in the men's, women's, and mixed doubles tournament. The teams are split into two groups of four, based on the Curling World Cup rankings, whereby the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th, ranked teams are in one group and the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th ranked teams in the other.
