2018 Úrvalsdeild
The 2018 Úrvalsdeild karla, also known as ''Pepsi-deild karla'' for sponsorship reasons, was the 107th season of top-flight Icelandic football. Twelve teams contested the league, including the defending champions Valur, who won their 21st league title in 2017. The season began on 27 April 2018 and concluded on 29 September 2018. Teams The 2018 Úrvalsdeild was contested by twelve teams, ten of which played in the division the previous year and two teams promoted from 1. deild karla. The bottom two teams from the previous season, Víkingur Ó. and ÍA, were relegated to the 2018 1. deild karla and were replaced by Fylkir and Keflavík, champions and runners-up of the 2017 1. deild karla respectively. Úrvalsdeild Karla (football)
The Úrvalsdeild karla (, Men's Select Division) is the highest men's football league in Iceland. It has been played since 1912. Because of the harsh winters in Iceland, it is generally played in the spring and summer (May to September). It is governed by the Football Association of Iceland (KSI) and has 12 teams. By end of season 2015–2016, UEFA ranked the league No. 35 in Europe. From 27 April 2009, the league has had an active agreement on the league's name rights with Ölgerðin, the Icelandic franchisee for Pepsi. From the 2019 season onwards, the league is popularly referred to as Pepsi Max deildin (The Pepsi Max League). The clubs play each other home and away. At the end of each season, the two teams with the fewest points are relegated to 1. deild karla (First Division), from which two top point teams promote to the higher tier. Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur (Reykjavík Football Club), often shortened to KR or KR Reykjavík, is an Icelandic football club based in the Vesturbær district of the capital, Reykjavík. Kaplakriki is a multi-purpose stadium in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar. The stadium holds over 6,000 spectators and has offers 3050 seats. The plan for the stadium development is to expand the seating capacity to over 4,000 seats taking the maximum capacity to over 7,000. Long-term plans though are to make the stadium an all-seater, full square stadium with around 6,000 seats and roofs over the stands. Hafnarfjörður (), officially Hafnarfjarðarkaupstaður (), is a port town and municipality in Iceland, located about south of Reykjavík. The municipality consists of two non-contiguous areas in the Capital Region, on the southwest coast of the country. Kópavogsvöllur () is a multi-use stadium in Kópavogur, Iceland. It is currently used mostly for football (soccer), football matches and is the home stadium of Breiðablik UBK, Breiðablik. It is also used for track and field events. The stadium holds 3,009 spectators and has 1,709 seats in two stands. The stadium was opened on 7 June 1975, when home team Breiðablik hosted Víkingur Ólafsvík in the old 2nd division. On 9 May 2008, a new stand was opened by Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, Iceland's Minister of Education, Science and Culture (Iceland), Minister of Education, Science and Culture. Kópavogur () is a town in Iceland that is the country's second largest municipality by population. It lies immediately south of Reykjavík and is part of the Capital Region. Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar ( en, Hafnarfjörður Gymnastics Club), commonly referred to as FH, is an Icelandic multi-sports club based in Hafnarfjörður. The club competes in football, handball, athletics, and fencing. It was founded in 1929 as a gymnastics club but soon started a handball department which became its flagship for several decades. Its men's football team has been a dominant power since the early 2000s. Football Men's football FH's men's football team has been a dominant power in Icelandic football since the early 2000s, winning several national championships.
