This is a list of aviation-related events in 2018. The deadliest crash of this year was 2018 Algerian Air Force Ilyushin Il-76 crash which crashed on 11 April 2018 killing all 257 on board. 2018 Algerian Air Force Ilyushin Il-76 Crash
On 11 April 2018, an Ilyushin Il-76 military transport aircraft of the Algerian Air Force crashed shortly after take-off from Boufarik Airport, Boufarik, Algeria, which is near Blida and south-west of the capital, Algiers. All 257 people on board were killed, making the accident the deadliest air crash on Algerian soil. Aircraft The aircraft was an Ilyushin Il-76, Ilyushin Il-76TD of the Algerian Air Force's produced by Tashkent Aviation Production Association in 1994. The aircraft, aircraft registration, registered 7T-WIV, manufacturer's serial number, msn 1043419649, had first flown in 1994. Crash At 07:50 Central European Time, local time (06:50 Coordinated Universal Time, UTC), the aircraft crashed just outside the perimeter of Boufarik Airport, Boufarik, from which it had recently taken off. CSeries Dumping Petition By Boeing
On 28 April 2016, Bombardier Aerospace recorded a firm order from Delta Air Lines for 75 CSeries CS100s plus 50 options. On 27 April 2017, Boeing filed a petition for dumping them at $19.6m each, below their $33.2m production cost. On 9 June 2017, the US International Trade Commission (USITC) found that the US industry could be threatened. On 26 September, the US Department of Commerce (DoC) observed subsidies of 220% and intended to collect deposits accordingly, plus a preliminary 80% anti-dumping duty, resulting in a duty of 300%. The DoC announced its final ruling, a total duty of 292%, on 20 December. On 10 January 2018, the Canadian government filed a complaint at the World Trade Organization against the US. On 26 January 2018, the four USITC commissioners unanimously determined that US industry is not threatened and no duty orders will be issued, overturning the imposed duties. The Airbus A380 is a large wide-body airliner that was developed and produced by Airbus. It is the world's largest passenger airliner and only full-length double-deck jet airliner. Airbus studies started in 1988, and the project was announced in 1990 to challenge the dominance of the Boeing 747 in the long-haul market. The then-designated A3XX project was presented in 1994; Airbus launched the € billion ($10.7 billion) A380 programme on 19 December 2000. The first prototype was unveiled in Toulouse on 18 January 2005, with its first flight on 27 April 2005. Runway Excursion
A runway excursion is a runway safety incident where an aircraft makes an inappropriate exit from the runway. Runway excursions include runway overruns, where an aircraft is unable to stop before it reaches the end of the runway. Runway excursions can happen because of pilot error, poor weather, or a fault with the aircraft. According to the Flight Safety Foundation, as of 2008, runway excursions were the most frequent type of landing accident, slightly ahead of runway incursion. For runway accidents recorded between 1995 and 2007, 96% of runway accidents and 80% of accidents with fatalities involved runway excursions. Management and prevention Efforts to address runway excursion either focus on preventing runway excursions, or on minimizing the amount of damage or injury caused by a runway excursion. Trabzon Airport is an airport near the city of Trabzon in the eastern Black Sea region of Turkey. The airport opened in 1957. The Boeing 737 Next Generation, commonly abbreviated as 737NG, or 737 Next Gen, is a narrow-body aircraft powered by two jet engines and produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Launched in 1993 as the third generation derivative of the Boeing 737, it has been produced since 1997 and is an upgrade of the 737 Classic (−300/-400/-500) series. Pegasus Airlines Flight 8622
Pegasus Airlines Flight 8622 was a domestic flight from Ankara to Trabzon, Turkey. On 13 January 2018, while landing on runway 11 at Trabzon Airport, the aircraft operating the flight ran off the left side of the runway and partially slid down a cliff. While there were no fatalities nor injuries of the 168 passengers and crew, the aircraft was damaged beyond repair and subsequently written off. Aircraft The aircraft involved was a Boeing 737-82R, with manufacturer serial number 40879, and line number 4267. It had the registration TC-CPF, was named "Zeynep", and was operated by the Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines.
