Slovenian Democratic Party
The Slovenian Democratic Party ( sl, Slovenska demokratska stranka, SDS), formerly the Social Democratic Party of Slovenia ( sl, Socialdemokratska stranka Slovenije, SDSS), is a conservative political party in Slovenia. It has been described as nationalist and right-wing populist, encompassing both national and social conservatism. Led by former Prime Minister of Slovenia Janez Janša, the SDS is a member of the European People's Party (EPP), Centrist Democrat International and International Democrat Union. SDS has its origins in the Slovenian anti-Communist pro-democracy dissident labour union movement of the late 1980s. Ecologists Without Borders
Ecologists Without Borders Association ( sl, Društvo Ekologi brez meja) is a non-profit environmentalist organization founded in March 2009 in Slovenia with the intent of organizing environmental projects. The organization has its headquarters in Ljubljana, with members spread throughout the country. In 2010 and 2012, the association organized the largest environmental volunteer action in Slovenia, which attracted over 13% of the residents (over 270,000 people out of ca. 2 million inhabitants), including the heads of the state, the military and hundreds of organizations. Both ''Let's Clean Slovenia in One Day!'' (2010) and ''Let's Clean Slovenia 2012'' broke the record as the largest civic initiatives in modern Slovenia, each time joining over 13% of the country's population. Environmental Volunteering
Environmental volunteers conduct a range of activities including environmental monitoring (e.g. wildlife); ecological restoration such as revegetation and weed removal, and educating others about the natural environment. They also participate in community based projects, improving footpaths, open spaces, and local amenities for the benefit of the local community and visitors. The uptake of environmental volunteering stems in part from the benefits for the volunteers themselves, such as improving social networks and developing a sense of place. Let's Clean Slovenia 2012
''Let's Clean Slovenia 2012'' ( sl, Očistimo Slovenijo 2012) was a Slovenian environmental volunteer project organized by the environmental organization Ecologists Without Borders with the goal of joining 250,000 people on 24 March 2012 and cleaning municipal waste from illegal landfills in the country. Cleaning of scattered garbage in urban areas was also organized. The project, a continuation of the ''Let's Clean Slovenia in One Day!'' carried out two years before, was inspired by the Estonian campaign ''Let's Do It 2008'' and organized within the frame of the ''World Cleanup 2012''. The work started in March 2011 and culminated in the all-Slovenian cleanup on 24 March 2012. Around 121,000 people applied until a few days before the event, with official support from almost all Slovene municipalities. A minority government, minority cabinet, minority administration, or a minority parliament is a government and Cabinet (government), cabinet formed in a parliamentary system when a political party or Coalition government, coalition of parties does not have a majority of overall seats in the legislature. 13th Government Of Slovenia
The 13th Government of Slovenia was elected on 13 September 2018 by the 8th National Assembly. It is the first minority government in the history of Slovenia. On 27 January 2020, following the resignation of the Minister of Finance Andrej Bertoncelj, Prime Minister Marjan Šarec announced his resignation. The National Assembly was informed on the same day following which the term of the 13th Government ended. Šarec is the third consecutive and in total fourth Prime Minister to resign, before him Miro Cerar, Alenka Bratušek and Janez Drnovšek resigned as well, the latter due to being elected President of the Republic. Triglav
Triglav (; german: Terglau; it, Tricorno), with an elevation of , is the highest mountain in Slovenia and the highest peak of the Julian Alps. The mountain is the pre-eminent symbol of the Slovene nation. It is the centrepiece of Triglav National Park, Slovenia's only national park. Triglav was also the highest peak in Yugoslavia before Slovenia's independence in 1991. Name Various names have been used for the mountain through history. An old map from 1567 named it ''Ocra mons'', whereas Johann Weikhard von Valvasor named it ''Krma'' in the second half of the 17th century. According to the German mountaineer and professor Adolf Gstirner, the name ''Triglav'' first appeared in written sources as ''Terglau'' in 1452, but the original source has been lost. Aljaž Tower
Aljaž Tower ( sl, Aljažev stolp) or the Triglav Tower () is a tower, a storm shelter and a triangulation point on the summit of Mount Triglav in northwestern Slovenia. Along with Triglav, it is a landmark of Slovenia and a symbol of the Slovenehood. The tower was designed by Jakob Aljaž, a priest in the Upper Carniolan village of Dovje, who also had it erected.
