2018 Westminster City Council Election
The 2018 Westminster City Council elections were held on 3 May 2018, the same day as other London Boroughs. All 60 seats were up for election along with the 12 seats of Queen's Park Community Council, the parish council in the north west of the city. Despite initial expectations of Labour gains across the borough, the Conservative party were able to hold the council and only lost 3 seats. The Conservatives won the popular vote across the borough by a small margin of 923 votes (1.7%), but nonetheless won a decisive victory in terms of seats, winning 41 councillors to Labour's 19. The Conservatives, Labour and the Liberal Democrats all ran full slates of 60 candidates. There were also candidates from the Greens as well as three from the Campaign Against Pedestrianisation of Oxford Street. The count took place in Lindley Hall and ran overnight. Westminster City Council
Westminster City Council is the local authority for the City of Westminster in Greater London, England. The city is divided into 20 wards, each electing three councillors. The council is currently composed of 31 Labour Party members and 23 Conservative Party members. The council was created by the London Government Act 1963 and replaced three local authorities: Paddington Metropolitan Borough Council, St Marylebone Metropolitan Borough Council and Westminster Borough Council. History There have previously been a number of local authorities responsible for the Westminster area. The current local authority was first elected in 1964, a year before formally coming into its powers and prior to the creation of the City of Westminster on 1 April 1965. Tony Devenish
Anthony Stuart Devenish (born 31 March 1968) is a British politician serving as the member of the London Assembly for West Central since 2016. A member of the Conservative Party, he is also a councillor on Westminster City Council, representing the Knightsbridge and Belgravia ward. Early life and career Devenish was born in London in 1968. Prior to his political career, he worked in infrastructure and property, with roles at Rolls-Royce from 1990 to 1997 (where he was one of the youngest overseas managers for the company), Kvaerner (1998–99) and Thames Water (1999–2004). West End is a ward of the London borough of the City of Westminster, in the United Kingdom. The ward has existed since elections to Westminster City Council that took place on 4 May 1978. It is named after the West End of London, which covers a wider area. Nicola Jane Aiken (née Durbin; born 4 February 1969) is a British Conservative Party politician serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cities of London and Westminster since 2019. She was the leader of Westminster City Council from 2017 to 2020. Early life Born in Cardiff, Aiken is the daughter of John and Pamela Durbin. Zack Polanski (born 1982) is the deputy leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, having served in the role since 7 September 2022. Melvyn Caplan is a British people, British Conservative Party (UK), Conservative politician. He has been a councillor for Little Venice (ward), Little Venice since 1990. Robert Davis (politician)
Robert Jonathan Davis (born 27 September 1957) is a British lawyer and Conservative Party politician. He was deputy leader of the Westminster City Council, and chairman of its planning committee for 17 years. He served as Lord Mayor of Westminster 1996-1997 and also chaired the London Mayors' Association between 1998 and 2016. Early life Robert Davis was born on 27 September 1957. Church Street (ward)
Church Street is an electoral ward of the City of Westminster. The population at the 2011 Census was 11,760. The ward covers the eponymous street market and the surrounding area of Lisson Grove, to the north of the Edgware Road. The area is currently the focus of regeneration plans by the council. The ward returns three councillors to Westminster City Council, with an election every four years. At the last election in May 2022, Matt Noble, Aicha Less and Abdul Toki, all candidates from the Labour Party, were elected to represent the ward. Since the ward was created for the formation of the council in 1965, it has usually elected Labour councillors, with most results indicating a safe seat for the party.
