The 2018 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix was a women's tennis tournament played on indoor clay courts. It was the 41st edition of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, and part of the Premier tournaments of the 2018 WTA Tour. It took place at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany, from 23 to 29 April 2018. Clay Court
A clay court is one of the types of tennis court on which the sport of tennis, originally known as "lawn tennis", is played. Clay courts are made of crushed stone, brick, shale, or other unbound mineral aggregate depending on the tournament. The French Open uses clay courts, the only Grand Slam tournament to do so. Clay courts are more common in Continental Europe and Latin America than in North America, Asia-Pacific or Britain. Two main types exist: red clay, the more common variety, and green clay, also known as "rubico", which is a harder surface. Although less expensive to construct than other types of tennis courts, the maintenance costs of clay are high as the surface must be rolled to preserve flatness. Known for her powerful left-handed groundstrokes and variety, Kvitová has won 29 career singles titles, including two major titles at Wimbledon in 2011 and in 2014. María José Martínez Sánchez (; born 12 August 1982) is a Spanish retired professional tennis player. In singles, she has won five WTA singles titles, her biggest being a Premier 5 title at the 2010 Italian Open where she defeated two former World No. 1 players, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Janković, en route to the title.
