2018 OFC U-16 Championship
The 2018 OFC U-16 Championship was the 18th edition of the OFC U-16/U-17 Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) for the men's under-16/under-17 national teams of Oceania. The qualifying stage was held in Tonga between 14 and 20 July 2018, and the final tournament was held in the Solomon Islands between 9–22 September 2018. Before the last tournament the age limit was reduced by a year to 16 years of age. However the last tournament remained the name U-17 Championship. For this tournament, the name has changed to U-16 Championship. So players who want to participate in the tournament needed to be born on or after 1 January 2002. At an OFC Executive Committee meeting held at its Auckland headquarters in November 2013 the competition format was modified. Raphael Ohanua Lea'i Jr. (born 9 September 2003) is a Solomon Islands professional footballer who plays as a striker for Bosnian Premier League club Velež Mostar and the Solomon Islands national team. He is the first Solomon Islands player to play in Europe. Early life Lea'i was born on 9 September 2003 in Honiara. Taking up futsal at the age of 12, he played for local side Kossa before moving to Marist. Club career Following promising performances at international level, Lea'i was noticed by foreign clubs, including Argentine Primera División club Deportivo Godoy Cruz and Australian A-League side Brisbane Roar. 2013 OFC U-17 Championship
The 2013 OFC U-17 Championship was the 15th edition of the OFC's Under 17 championship, the biennial football championship of the Oceanian Confederation. All matches took place at Chapuis stadium, Luganville in Vanuatu from 17 to 27 April. 6 teams contested the final round of the Championship after the Solomon Islands Football Federation withdrew, as it could only financially support its Beach Soccer and Fustal sides in national competition. As winners, New Zealand qualified as Oceania's representative for the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup. 2003 OFC U-17 Championship
The 2003 OFC U-17 Championship was the 10th edition of the OFC's under-17 Championship. It was held in American Samoa, Australia and New Caledonia. The winning side qualified for the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Finland. Australia won their ninth (and third consecutive) title after beating New Caledonia 7–1 over two legs in the final. Host selection Solomon Islands were originally selected as the host nation for Group B, but agreed to move the Group to Australia due to safety concerns. The Vanuatu national under-17 football team is the national U-17 team of Vanuatu and is controlled by the Vanuatu Football Federation.
