2018 Lithuanian Football Cup
The 2018 Lithuanian Football Cup, also known as LFF Cup, was the seventy-third season of the Lithuanian annual football knock-out tournament. Forty-eight teams entered the competitions, which started on 27 April and ended on 30 September. The winners qualify for the 2019–20 UEFA Europa League. Stumbras were the defending champions. Participants Participation in the competition is mandatory for all clubs of the first three tiers (A Lyga, LFF I Lyga and II Lyga). Despite that NFA aren't competing for the second year in a row. Teams of lower divisions are eligible to join if they met additional criterios. Rules prevented all reserve teams from entering the cup. Futbolo klubas Žalgiris, commonly known as FK Žalgiris, Žalgiris Vilnius or simply Žalgiris, is a Lithuanian professional football club based in Vilnius. The club competes in the A Lyga, the top flight of Lithuanian football. The club was founded as Dinamo in 1947. The club's name commemorates the victorious ''Battle of Žalgiris'' (Battle of Grunwald) (both names: ''Žalgiris'' and ''Grunwald'' are translated as "green forest"). Football Club Jonava, previously (1996–2016) known as Football Club Lietava, is a Lithuanian professional association football, football club based in Jonava. The club gained promotion to the A lyga as champions of the I Lyga in 2015 LFF I lyga, 2015, but were relegated from A Lyga in 2018. History The club was founded in 1991 as Azotas (after the name of the local Azotas fertilizer factory), the name Lietava was adopted in 1996. For a number of years the club played in the second tier of the Lithuanian football championship.
