2018 Cape Verdean Football Championships
The 2018 Cape Verdean Football Championship season is the 39th beginner level (likely amateur) competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Also it was another season that it was sponsored by a clothing company Tecnicil, it was also known as the 2018 Cape Verdean Tecnicil football season or the 2018 Tecnicil Football Championships. The championship was governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. The season began earlier started on 7 April 2018 and finished on 2 June. Académica da Praia won their only national championship title, their last Cape Verdean title was won in 1965 which was a provincial title, used until independence in 1975. The Cape Verdean Football Championship or the Campeonato Caboverdiano de Futebol is a football competition that was created in 1976 in Cape Verde. A local championship was founded in 1953 before independence, when the islands were still part of the Portuguese Empire. History Before independence The first football championship that was not official took place in 1938 and were colonial and later provincial, only clubs from São Vicente participated, they were actual insular championships. The first official championships began in 1953 and featured clubs from only the islands of São Vicente (along with its surroundings) and Santiago took part. Clube Desportivo Scorpions Vermelho de Santa Cruz is a football (soccer) club that plays in the Santiago Island League North Zone of the Grupo Centro Sul in Cape Verde.
