2014 Brent London Borough Council Election
The 2014 Brent London Borough Council election took place on 22 May 2014 to elect members of London Borough of Brent, Brent London borough, London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Labour Party (UK), Labour Party stayed in overall control of the council. Kensal Green
Kensal Green is an area in north-west London. It lies mainly in the London Borough of Brent, with a small part to the south within Kensington and Chelsea. Kensal Green is located on the Harrow Road, about miles from Charing Cross. To the west on Harrow Road lies Harlesden while in the opposite direction are Maida Hill and Westbourne. Queens Park and Brondesbury are to the north-east, Willesden is to the north-west, and North Kensington lies to the south separated by the railway tracks of the Great Western Main Line. Kensal Green is best known for the Grade I listed Kensal Green Cemetery. Tokyngton, also locally known as Monks Park, is a locality that forms the southeastern part of the town of Wembley in Greater London, in the London Borough of Brent, England. Most refer it as being either Wembley or Stonebridge, as the name ''Tokyngton'' is historical and out of favour, hardly used by locals and not noted as a destination on road signs, except for street names and public places bearing the name. Tokyngton was first mentioned in 1171, its name meaning "the farm of the sons of Toca". However the name does officially survive as an electoral ward of Brent London Borough Council. Sudbury () is a suburb in the London Borough of London Borough of Brent, Brent, located in northwest London, United Kingdom. The suburb forms the western part of Wembley and is centred around west of Wembley Central railway station. Stonebridge, London
Stonebridge is a locality in the London Borough of Brent that forms the western part of Harlesden in Northwest London, England. The A404 runs through the district known locally as Brentfield and Hillside, while to the south are railway tracks and to the west is the North Circular Road along with Stonebridge Park station. The area is known for the previously troubled 1960s Stonebridge housing estate, which was completely redeveloped in the 2000s. Virginia Bonham Carter
Mark Raymond Bonham Carter, Baron Bonham-Carter (11 February 1922 – 4 September 1994) was an English publisher and politician. He was created a life peer in 1986. Early life He was the son of the Liberal activists Sir Maurice Bonham-Carter and his wife, the former Lady Violet Asquith, daughter of the Liberal Prime Minister H. H. Asquith. He was the second-youngest of four children; Helen, Laura and Raymond. Educated at Winchester College and Balliol College, Oxford, where he read PPE, his studies were interrupted by the Second World War, and he was commissioned in the Grenadier Guards in November 1941. Captured in Tunisia in 1943 and imprisoned in Italy, he escaped and walked four hundred miles to return to British lines, being mentioned in dispatches. Bonham-Carter concluded the war by standing as the unsuccessful Liberal candidate for Barnstaple in the 1945 general election, before returning to finish the last year of his course at Oxford. Queen's Park, London
Queen's Park is an area located partly in the City of Westminster and partly in the London Borough of Brent. Some of the area within Westminster forms a civil parish, the first to be created in London since the right of communities to establish civil parishes was enacted in 2007. The area is located north-west of Charing Cross, and centred around a park, which opened in 1887 and was named in honour of Queen Victoria. The area gives its name to Queens Park Rangers football club. Architecturally, Queen's Park is an important historic area, with a unified urban layout with a high level of building preservation. Queensbury is an area of northwest London, England, in the southeast of the London Borough of Harrow on the boundary with the London Borough of Brent. The area is split between four postal districts: Harrow HA3, Stanmore HA7, Edgware HA8, and London NW9. Geography and history The Queensbury suburb was built by Percy Harold Edwards (1886-1937). Preston, London
Preston is a small locality in northwest London. It forms part of the London Borough of Brent and the northern part of Wembley. It is a residential suburb containing Preston Road Station ( Metropolitan line) with some stores on either side. The area to the station's north is covered under the HA3 postcode and is, along with the area around South Kenton station to the west, normally considered part of Kenton. Facilities The Preston Manor School is located in the area, and JFS is also nearby. It also contains the award-winning Blue Oyster Fish Bar, the Kenton Hall venue, and a youth football club called Forest United. London bus routes 79, 204 and 223 serve Preston, the latter with a long hail and ride section to or from Kenton. Kilburn is an area of north west London, England, which spans the boundary of three London Boroughs: London Borough of Camden, Camden to the east, City of Westminster, London Borough of Brent, Brent to the west. Kenton, London
Kenton is a district in north-west London, England, to the east of Harrow and historically in Middlesex. As with surroundings in Harrow, Wembley and Kingsbury, the area was a product of Metroland suburbia of the early 20th century. Harlesden
Harlesden is a district in the London Borough of Brent, North West London. Located north of the Grand Union Canal and Wormwood Scrubs, the Harrow Road flows through the centre of the area which goes eastwards to Central London and west towards Wembley. Harlesden was historically in the Municipal Borough of Willesden before the creation of Brent; it lies within Willesden's postal district of NW10. Harlesden has been praised for its vibrant Caribbean culture and unofficially named London's reggae capital for its contributions to the musical genre.
